The majority don't seem to have any want in escaping the illusions that surround us. So the idea of a mass awakening seems to be an illusion people with a savior complex get stuck in. One that ultimately hurts them, making them turn to things like alcohol when their efforts seem hopeless.
Do not psychologically torture yourself like that. By all means help people, but don't expect the masses to understand.

there is no wasted effort, it is like an old man planting a tree that he will not see grow.
every positive contribution you make, if people see it or dont has an effect on the total noosphere. you might not see it right now, but people will change for the better and you helped.

How precisely do you help others? It seems like every act of kindness is a double edged sword. Doing good but also doing harm, in some way, with the same act.

I could give them exactly what they demand. Autonomous robotic machines built on demand and tailor made precisely to fulfill the needs that are required. It could be a tool for unlimited prosperity. With all their basic physical needs met they could focus all their energies on more lofty and noble goals. But what would they do with this? Maybe some would choose to do good, but eventually somewhere someone's gunna slap a gun on it. Then once one person does, everyone will feel fear and then the need to match this escalation. Then violence and death follow.

The price of failing to help isn't paid solely by the individual trying to help. It's paid by many.

This is the Q I use to test people, and none have answered it sufficiently. Any time I meet someone who claims to have wisdom, whether otherworldly or not, I ask them this. The question itself seems simple but it's a trick question. The fact that this is a trick question speaks volumes about the "rules of nature" for this reality.
Seriously tho, I feel like I'm here on the planet to help others, but what's the point if that's not really possible?

Because people are fixated on their attachment to chasing desire and pleasurable emotional states.
