Money Laundering Smoke Shops
Have you guys noticed how in the past 5 years there's a constant stream of smoke shop's opening up?

Even in my small town of less than 10,000 people there's like 15 smoke shops owned by middle easterners/indians that have just popped up overnight. These, and "Gaming Rooms" (Gambling dens basically) have just become to ubiquitous.

I don't think there's enough people in my area to support even 10 of these places, let alone 15-20 of them. So could this be money laundering or some other nefarious thing?

They all seem to be ran by vaguely middle eastern types. So if it isn't washing money for organized crime, then could it be for terrorists washing money?

I just paid $10.99 for a single kratom concentrate pill just for the fun of it. They're also quite small and hire family or tweekers so little overhead. Sadly it's also easy to buy these things wholesale and sell them for whatever you want.

I live in Canada so Natives have 10+ shops on their reserves. A majority of them are run out of their houses and sell cigs, vapes, weed, and shrooms.

I go to my local smoke shop every week out of like 5 nearby that I could choose. They have black Friday promotions and 4/20 promotions for like the first customers at opening.

Do they do taxes differently, yes.
They do their taxes by the books but they keep all cash transactions tax free in purchasing. They probably file their cash earnings separately so as to not get bit in the ass so hard. Are they laundering money? Probably not. Best way to launder money is through vending machines. Cash goes in, product comes out, with what money was the product purchased? no one knows.
Also it's best to never use a card at bodegas and run down convenience stores cause they put card skimmers, even unbeknownst to shop keeps.

Those things are nice, but I prefer opium/heroin and codeine.

Another related story is that I smoked meth with a gas station attendant in the backrooms of a circle k. I got psychosis like a few weeks after, but it was funny. Was getting like closed eye hallucinations of random screens, and it started freaking me out. Felt like I was being watched 24/7 and had intrusive thoughts or telepathic conversations with my dog.

Gen Z is fueling this stuff and Onlyfans. Both of these are also massive money laundering schemes tho. So you’re not 100% wrong. We’re just more degenerate than how it used to be.

I hate to ruin the fun but I do marketing consulting and have talked to about 20 of these shops.

The secret is that people are getting swindled by get rich quick youtube content.

That's it.

They say how you will make "unlimited easy passive income" if you buy some cheap real estate and hock drugs.

Then they lock themselves into 5 year leases making, if they are lucky, net minimum wage and more commonly lose money.

Just stupid people falling for greed based scams.

How does one get a loan for a 5 year lease to a strip mall? I'm guessing it's just as much as a small house. Where would one even get the collateral to finance that?

I would say it's more that people are desperate and are picking up more addictions AND some smoke shops are just 420 stores in disguise to reduce public backlash.

it doesnt make sense because the vapes and kratom they sell are way too competitive, they cant make money with that

they're either cover for government stuff or cover for just openly selling drugs if you ask for it. never tried though

And where are you getting these competition statistics from?
What if people are just so much prolific addicts they don't even realize how much money they spend? You don't seem familiar with how much a person spends on smokes if they're an addict. Average is like $309 a person per month So you can imagine that due to the nature of averages and addictions, theres a large number of people spending upwards of $1k a month.

Maybe the overhead isn't what you think it is.

And you don't understand how little of that is profit for the retailer

I just paid $40 for a vape (GEEK BAR Pulse X). I found a local online distributer and they sell it for $25. These people just have insane profit margins. Kratom must be super cheap too. Everyone makes minimum wage cause it's "cool" to work at the smoke shop.

There's a ton in every town in the UK. This and barber shops with no customers and novelty American sweet shops in tourist locations. It's a common money laundering front and its openly pointed out amongst the public. The media have done stings on illegal vapes and contraband cigarettes in some stores too. I've no idea how successful they are.

Many small businesses are really just laundering money from entities from other countries. Do you ever see a small business in your town that has been open for years but never has many customers? Sure, some of them are failed businesses, but many of them are laundering money.

And it's not just small businesses. There are medium and large sized businesses that are really just money laundering operations at their core. I worked at a company that was doing $100 million per year in revenue, and even though it was providing a legitimate service, it was really was just a large money laundering operation that was using the service that it provided as a cover. After 6 months of working there, I figured out what was going on and I left.

chinese are buying up pot farms. grow your own. also it is the sugar in the vapes that give lung cancer. same for traditional tobacco - the quick dry process of the leaves creates sugar that one smokes and gives cancer.
