It was an apocalypse cult. Extreme Christian. We had a spiritual leader and his wife who led it, they slowly broke in that they were God incarnate after pretending to be prophets for the longest time. They really dug into Catholic stuff and held it to the most extreme degree, shit like mortal sin. So I didn't jerk off for 3 years. That's how serious it was; it was literally like 'if you sin knowing that it's a sin it's not forgiveable' but of course it was more as a control tactic to make people email them for confession/advice every day.
Everyone was supposed to be possessed, of course except for them and their followers. Eye contact was forbidden bc it was 'dangerous' and opened you up to demons. If you thought of someone from your family or friend group, it was because they were doing witchcraft on you. So the whole experience was insanely stressful since I believed it.

That's a long story. I set out to prove astrology was bullshit about 10 years ago, but I quickly became fascinated with how well it seemed to work, not only for psychological profiling and these kind of half-serious readings I'm doing here, but also for timing and predicting world events and market movements. Due to peculiar circumstances, I had the chance to devote all of my time to the study of classical languages and various occult philosophies, and over the years I met teachers from several different continents. The system I ended up using is a synthesis of vedic, classical western and arab astrology, with a marked emphasis on the fixed stars.
I've done numerous case studies tracking planetary positions and how they correlate to major political events and market movements, and at one point I was using that knowledge to my advantage trading futures. I made a nice chunk of money like that, and that cemented my conviction in that there is a real, tangible mechanism at work here that transcends human psychology.
If you want to seriously learn how to use astrology without being dependent on a particular text book or tradition, it takes years of observation, but you must also build a personal relationship with the planets themselves. I could give you detailed instructions on how to do this, but that is such a vast topic I'm afraid this may not be the right venue for that.
If you want to read books, I really recommend you read Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos, and really read it - take notes, and take your time going through it, it is an incredible source of information. William Lilly is another fountainhead of wisdom in this regard, as are some of the indian classics.

Essentially, I've developed a close personal relationship with the planets themselves. The process of interpreting the chart for me is not analytical, I look at the placements and the chart "speaks" to me, and I just write down those observations.
I was considering starting a study group last night if there are enough people that are interested in the method I use, as teaching is often times the best way to learn as well.

The moon changes the sign it is in every two days or so. It changes something called nakshatra or lunar mansion (just another division of the ecliptic into smaller segments than the 12 zodiac signs) every day. The ascending sign changes every two hours.
When I do proper readings, i.e. when people pay me to do it and I devote several hours to do a deep dive, I look more at the fixed stars than the zodiac signs. The ascendant can change the fixed star that is rising every few minutes, and the Moon also goes through several fixed stars in a day.
As the ascendant changes, so do the houses.
Let's suppoe your brother has Venus in Aquarius 5th house - alright, that makes him love techno. If he was born an hour ealier, that same Venus in Aquarius would be located in 4th house - indicating an eccentric mother, for example.
TLDR: the houses are different, probably the Moon sign as well
