Regarding picrel. You also have to adjust your attitude to religious/philosophical/esoteric books and texts. A lot of them are not meant to be sat down and consumed/read in one sitting. Sure I read picrel, and “got” what the Desert Fathers were saying, but what’s the point if I’m not living it or considering that worldview in my life? There’s a graduality with obtaining knowledge. It’s why historically the Bible wasn’t just read as a text but as a way of understanding life. Again careful with the sophistry/pride stuff.
Additionally, there’s already enough content/noise in modernity. So I would also be selective with that stuff, not just what you read. Music is a good example. I enjoy religious music (Sacred Harp, Orthodox Chants, Bach). You gotta also create an environment where it all feeds together. Surround yourself with beauty (but also not just beauty for its own sake).
