Long ago our grandfathers sat beneath the cedar shade and spoke of the time when the world would grow old and tired when the songs of the land would be forgotten and the people would walk with heavy steps because their hearts had become two instead of one they said there would come a day when the Blue Star Kachina dances in the plaza and removes his mask before all the children of the earth and in that moment the veil between worlds would grow thin and the people would remember that the stars are their kin and the stones their ancestors that day would be the day of awakening when the people remember who they are and the Great Purification begins
After him would come the Red Kachina the purifier who brings the fire from the sky and the trembling of the earth his coming would mark the end of the fourth world and the birth of the fifth the rivers would turn their beds the winds would cry like lost children and those who have forgotten the sacred ways will not see the dawn for the two hearted people those who speak with one tongue but hold another inside will be torn between the light and the shadow and their own deceit will consume them they have forgotten the laws of balance and have filled the earth with sickness and greed and they will try to hide beneath stone and iron but no shelter will stand before the Red One’s breath
