I have been wondering lately. What if I naturemaxx?
I have close to me a very good land with enough wilderness to explore it indefinitely and have practically free reign there. I can move there, rent is cheap and houses, while run down, can be made livable.
What I want to know is, can I live off going full into herbalism and into foraging specific herbs and making products out of them like tonics, pomades, natural herb teas, etc?
Maybe opening a small shop with natural remedies and all that. Or selling stuff online.
I have the magical knowledge to make my products legit, and all I would need would be to find the best herbs and combination in the area and just go there and look for them.
How delusional would it be to expect to make a living out of it?

Having to work 5 days a week to be able to do what actually makes me feel that what I do is meaningful is way less natural than using electromagnetic communication to find someone who is willing to pay money for a tincture made with foraged herbs.

Just suppose we go through all the conversation where the conclusion is we are humans living in a human society and as such we have to fucking eat and surviving eating grass or doing photosyntesis is not realistic.
I don't care if the means through wich I sustain my lifestyle are as close to a wild animal living in nature as possible. What I want is to do what I like and make enough money to survive. I am asking if that is realistic, not if it is natural.

It's not going to be a magic potion store. I am talking about legit herbalism. Not even gonna mention the magic part, that would be private and just used to make my remedies as useful as possible for whoever buys them.
My plan is to just do natural remedies by using all the knowledge accumulated through the centuries before the Rockefeller Foundation decided to build a pharmaceutic empire by patenting chemicals extracted from those same plants.

Its a hard existence. The average person requires about 5 acres of land to grow their own foods and maintain health.

Agriculture is demanding, and animal husbandry takes a lot of time. Overplan and expect failures, with 70% success rate as your goal if using organic processes

My plan is to immerse myself fully into herbalism and use it as income to survive. That's what I was curious about if it is realistic or not. I do have the possibility of growing some herbs but most of them will have to be foraged. I do not plan on having animals or growing other crops.

It's not like I am planning on getting rich or anything. Believe me when I tell you that I am making more money than I need by sitting on my ass all day barely working. What I want to do will be WAY more work than what I do now and I just want enough money to survive in exchange. If you see it as fleecing people that's your problem. How I see it is just making a honest living, one probably much less comfortable than what I have now but more meaningful.

Look for wild strains of preferred herbs and begin a heritage farm. Likely a 30-50% success rate unless you use modern chemicals, soils, and techniques. Be very careful and selective, with testing if you can afford it. Dont worry about crossbreeding for extra growth, just give the plants everything they need.
While some people get by with what nature offere, those are typically truffle hunters that own 10+ acres in ideal truffle conditions. Tonics could be useful but the FDA is a massive hurdle here.

More money than I need to survive. If I eat cheap and don't do anything besides survive I can save 5k in a year. That is my definition of more than I need. I am where I am because my environment forced me down this path and this is the first time in 30 fucking years where I can finally decide what to do with my life.
I don't want to make money. I want my time in this godforsaken place to be as meaningful as possible. Being in nature and processing herbs makes me happy and feels meaningful, even more so if people can benefit from it.

One thing you could do is look at the most expensive herbs in the marketplace, and then do some research into liquid based cloning for plants or fungus. I don't remember the exact name of the process, but there is a horticulturist out there who perfected the art of cloning plant-based DNA of virtually any type of growable form.

Dude its driving me up a wall that I can't find that original video.
She used these sealed glass bulbs that had a thin tube connecting them. Her process was similar, but unique because she was able to not just clone plants, but create new cloneables that had virtually 0 DNA degradation.
I spent like an hour watching this video. It had a matte black background, and the lady was very clinical and proffesional the entire time. IIRC the title of the video was something along the lines of "I made x$ by cloning rare plants".

Probably not, unless you have a group of people doing this with you. Even back in the day, Grug and Grag did the hunting and Oog would do the berry picking, so nobody was doing shit all on their own. You could definitely cut some grocery costs depending on your region and skill at identifying and processing plants, but you'd need some other form of sustenance if it's a self-sufficiency thing you're after

There are a few people doing that, but it's hard and grueling.

The only naturemaxxing that makes sense is retreats. I found prayer and meditation to be supercharged in forests. You may meet a nature spirit or two, just don't go with them.

Yeah, that's actually the plan. I mean, I will also hunt and fish because I enjoy the activities, but my idea is to generate an income through setting up a small shop, maybe even online only or a small stand on the side of the road, where I will be selling whatever I make. That is what I want my source of subsistence to be.
The idea is not to be fully dependant on nature, but to have a lifestyle fully dedicated to maximizing the amount of time I spend there.

Why the sarcasm? I have already found the area and rent is affordable. The market might be saturated but I won't be doing whatever everyone else is doing. Also I want to sell to regular people who are self conscious enough to search for the alternative stuff, which in that are is also a good chunk of the population.

Depending on your expenses I imagine it would be somewhat difficult to break even on boutique herbal remedies. A farm, homestead or whatever it is you call what you envision is a multidimensional endeavor in an economic sense. If you throw in some seasonal vegetables for a road side farm stand or farmers market, plant some Christmas trees, make natural furniture, arts and crafts etc to tap into as many income streams as you can maybe you stand a chance. Also be personable so people want to support your business. If you document your 'experience' on youtube and write a book along the way. Your remedies are going to have to stand out against trusted brands someone can just grab off the shelf at Whole Foods on their normal shopping rounds.
