This is something that used to bother me when I was agnostic.

Atheists don't just disbelieve they make a positive claim there is no God to believe in.

An agnostic doesn't make a claim about God and say it's impossible to know.

If you want to be considered to be religious, be agnostic and say you can't know.

But yeah, the word agnostic was coined by an agnostic who didn't consider himself atheist or theist, he just said he did not know.

please explain the difference between believing something and knowing something.

I remember back when I was younger caring about these things. Excitedly looking at all the "labels" that I could categorize myself into and identify with. Just the silliness of youth. How foolish and pseudo-intellectual I was to think that it meant anything to place myself into some bucket.

Atheism is most definitely a religion. Religion comes from the root word religare, which means to tie back or bind again. Money is a religion, government is religion, authority is religion. All these things are holding us back from reaching our true human potential. Atheism is a belief system that rejects a fundamental truth, the fact that we have a creator or the existence of a higher power. As a result, atheists immediately get on the slippery slope of moral relativism and can quite easily become solipsistic. Now any kind of sin is permitted because there are no karmic repercussions(there still are but the atheist doesn't see it that way, so they get trapped in the cycle of never learning and growing). Atheism is an extremely dangerous and subversive ideology because of this fact.
