But if your dogs howl is what got you control of your body... and pulled you out of the "dream"(mind psyciki visceral horror) I mean DREAM TORTURE... then he sensed you were in trouble and has effectively, sewn your soul back to physical reality
Dogs are aware of another deeper reality its why we like dogs.
