I have this theory that we are constantly manifesting the apocalypse, but God or whoever is always shifting us into timelines where the apocalypse is averted (think quantum immortality). So we are basically stuck in an endless loop of wanting to die but being unable to (i.e. Hell). This is why it always feels like something big is going to happen, and yet nothing big ever happens at the same time.
