The apple of the tree of knowledge of good and evil was Gnosis, is it not? Now knowing good and evil, Adam and Eve saw that God was evil so they rejected him, and he rejected them.
God didn't want for them to know that, thinking he would do them good and it would be better for them to simply be content in his domain.
With the gnosis, humans simply couldn't be content with God's design so they are now left completely alone to do whatever the hell they want, without any favor or help or attention from God, nor any rules, regulations or pathways laid out by God.

The good ol' "find out fruit." It was called that because if you ate it, you'd find out what "evil" does. Eating was symbolic of doing that one thing you explicitly know you're not supposed to do but do it anyway, which is in itself, the "sin." The fruit did nothing. The damage was from the partaking. God didn't banish them. They banished themselves by wrecking their spiritual alignment, forcing themselves out.

Being in the Garden is what it means to be "walking with Christ." The garden is the Logos manifest. It is a metaphysical place where you are greatly in proximity to source or the manifested personified God.

Eden is an instruction booklet on how to stay in Heaven once you get there, not the reason why we are all currently here.
