is there any real way to tell if someone is doing hoodoo love spells or manifesting you? and how do you know it’s not just an idea coming from your own head?

out of nowhere I started missing this guy from 5 years ago really intensely even though it was just a short fling and I have been with my current boyfriend for over 2 years. the only reason this even crossed my mind is because this guy was into astrology and usually people who are that deep into natal charts like he was are also into occult stuff

also, a year after things ended I found his IG and he was following some middle aged witchy woman with hoodoo imagery and those wax figurine candles that look like the “love spell” items you see sold on Etsy. pretty sure the captions had mentions of sex magic and bringing backs lover. she only had like 200 to 300 followers and she was following him back too, which makes it especially weird. unfortunately i can’t remember the name of the lady’s ig account and he set his account to private not long after i found him so it’s not like i can find her by just looking at his following account again.

to be clear I do not actually think he used anything on me. I think this is probably just me not fully healed from that situation. i am only asking because clearly people online do buy those types of spells so people must be out here using them.

It was good. But then it turned for the worse.

Real talk, it seems very concerning if any more than a passing limerence. It's hard to call something limerence when you've been together before and you're remembering something specific, however. It sounds like you're genuinely pining for something much different than what you're doing now. Sometimes we get just comfortable enough to not want to make necessary changes in our lives for the better. A situation where it's not "bad" but you find the hunger in your soul wants something else. That's fine and life is like that for everyone but don't hang on to your current guy because of a selfish comfort. Let him go, though he will probably be devasted and not understand, so that you can both move on to a more ideal situation.
You know yourself and your guy better than me, obviously, but I'm trying to express that you should at least take care not to let this current guy who really cares about you live in a situation where he's delusional because you're not fully into it anymore for whatever reason. People fall out of love but try not to hurt somebody by monkey branching. This applies to both genders, I'm not just shitting on you for being female.

I will say this is how I've been feeling lately. I also want to add that I think the reason why a lot of people (including myself) get hung up on a short fling that doesn't go further beyond the honeymoon phase, is because you never really end up getting close enough to that person to discover their flaws and the uglier aspects of who they are. thus, people go on to assume that things would've been amazing had it worked out with that "short lived fling" , since their idea of who that person is stems from the lustful beginning stage of a relationship.

and yeah, I have problems with my current bf. While I have a lot of fun with my when I'm with him, he has the tendency to be a generally negative person. he despises his 9-5 and suffers from depression & anxiety and goes on pessimistic tirades, which he often sends me through text while we're both at work. what he said this past week got under my skin as he told me his mom said she was going to start paying him to stay at home because he's "becoming so sick and mentally unwell he's starting to not be able to physically work" even though a large reason why he feels "sick" is because he doesn't eat all day, doesn't exercise, and smokes to de-stress. there's also some resentment on my end as my parents would not do that shit for me, considering I'm in my late twenties like he is.

Sorry for making this so personal. I will probably get shit on for how personal this is. I just wanted to get it all off my chest. I don't want to leave my bf, especially because he just start seeking out therapy. The complaining, negativity, and pessimism that comes from him sometimes is most likely what leads me to romanticize the past.. still think there's something particularly creepy about this one guy from 5 yrs ago and the fact that he was following what was clearly a hoodoo witchcraft related account.

There's nothing to apologize for. When somebody is being honest and candid, it's much easier to do the same in return. I was a little harsh there with that first post because this is 4chan and I was being unfairly assumptive about you because of that. My bad. Being self aware enough to truly look at your own problems and consider different possibilities is an unfortunately rare trait for humanity at large. It's really good that you can do that and it seems like that'll be helpful going forward too.
Seems like you don't like the guy's direction in life, and even outlook these days. He seems demoralized but that can only be somebody else's [your] problem to a certain extent. If you've tried to help him and it's not working and now the situation is to your detriment, you're justified in not wanting to do that. Anybody can tell you that you can/should just try harder to help him but that's just not how life is. Change starts with oneself and if he's not even prioritizing that, what can you even do? If you said the guy was having troubles but doing everything possible to address them and fix himself but yet you were yearning, that might change my opinion but it doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe the end of this relationship would kickstart his life in some other direction too, I don't know enough about the situation but maybe.
Like I said, just try not to hurt anybody more than is necessary. Don't be cruel, even on accident. I think if you keep being honest with yourself like this that you'll end up where you want. Some truths you have to swallow like bitter medicine and that sucks, but we all know there's no healing power in the sweet.

This. I had a gf who would come stay over every Friday until Monday morning, then go to work all week. It was awesome. Many times we also lived together and it became shitty after a week or so, we def grew tired of eachother and during long stints we’d both get grumpy at times, but we were pretty enlightened and would mock our own angry feelings and apologize and make up, but it would still happen more when we lived together than when it was only weekends.

This made me realize you have o live with someone before you fully commit to them. I know one woman who would always wash the dishes right when I fell asleep on the couch early after a long day of work, it would be 9pm-ish she would wake me up, I’d tell her not to do that if she noticed I was asleep because I needed the rest and I’d do them later, but she’s always wake me up with the fucking dishes. Another chick said “ok I won’t” and then didn’t, but she’d also not do other things I told her to. Everyone is like this, I will not turn off lights when I leave the room sometimes, I probably never will unless electricity goes way up in price, if this annoys someone, they will be annoyed by me.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, give eachother space, both go to different rooms for like 4-5 hours and draw or do art or play videogames and leave eachother alone. It used to weird me out to do this because usually when we were together were we like on top of eachother constantly, but we figured that out to just leave eachother alone for a while made us less annoyed.
