Why do people claim to see God when on psychedelics? Are the psychedelics just degenerate drugs or are they actually experiencing something?

Psychedelics turn off your brains filters.
Most of what the brain filters is useless junk information.
Thats not all though. It also filters what your trauma reactions repress inside you. Thats why with the right intention people say that psychedelics are similar to therapy.
With enough taken, you can look behind the veil to see entities. You also see the true nature of yourself, aka Brahman hallucinating that its Atman, which is ego death. Whether thats God is probably debatable, but still deeply spiritual. Its also hard to distinguish the useless junk from the deeper stuff.

The difference between a charged imagination and divine encounter is both incredible in its scope but also so minute in its difference that they can not be differenciated.

Ask yourself why we have the capacity to dream? To create worlds inside our minds. How it can both lead us to our greatest love and our deepest shame.

I think you have to be able to hold opposing views at once and in the resonance between these concepts do you find the truth.

However look at the truth long enough and it slips through your fingers. If you feel a divine spark on psychedelics, im happy for you. If you are just having a good time, im happy for you too.

If i were to be bold and make a recommendation, dont fight a bad trip. Embrace it and let it speak to you.

Psychs change the resonance in the brain to perceive other things. If the argument against psychs is "its just chemicals", you see using chemicals too, sobriety doesnt change the fact that your perception is inherently incomplete and psychs can show you various angles and views of the multiplicity of reality.

Any mind altering substance can become degenerate, it has alot to do with what kind of person is taking it and why. Psychedelics are... less dirty I would say than the others. The experience sought after tends to be in pursuit of something higher and such an experience can be delivered by them.

I've had profoundly intimate moments with God on them, i've also had moments where it was abundently clear I was being attack by demonic spirits and it was a bad time.

We are surrounded by an unseen spiritual realm or dimension. The hardware within our brain filters most of this out for our own safety. The spiritual realm is difficult to comprehend for us right now, and it is a battleground, a place of war.

When you take psychedelics, that hardware in your brain is almost sort of chemically overruled for a time. This part of your brain is called the Default Mode network.

The neurological filters stop filtering so well, different regions of the brain that dont talk to each other will. Your consciousness, your spiritual self, is to an extent unshackled from the confines of the brain and dips its toes into that spiritual dimension. This is the beginning of the transcendent experience associated with psyches. The trip.

You are vulnerable in that place, even if you know what you're doing. The direction cannot be fully controlled but if you spend your time in prayer, worship, admiration and communion with God, the Creator, you are in for the most profound encounter of your life

You can also just as likely encounter or be encountered by demonic spirits. Again, you are vulnerable in this place. They can ruin your life, a bad trip can be the beginning of life long mental illness

This is why Christians tend to avoid psychedelics. Yes, you might encounter God. Yes it might be a positive thing, but you can also become a magnet for demons. The gates of your spiritual self open to everything at your own risk

I'll just copy-paste what I told some anon a few moons ago. The thread was about dreams, but bear with me.

I believe dreams are a window to the raw escence of existence, and as such are maleable and reactive when affected by diverse factors. To begin with, I can separate dreams (or their elements, as they more often than not seem to mix up to varying degrees) into three categories:

"Depuration" dreams, where the elements of the dream are made up by the information your brain has directly acquired, this is to say, faces of people you know, elements of your day to day, personal worries, re-enactments of previous experiences, etc.
These are the main stage for the regulatory function of the psyche which Jung talked about, where your subconscious sends you messages through symbols and attempts to fix "bad sectors" (kind of like running a chkdsk command in windows).

Second are the "unfiltered" dreams, where fragments of information from what you could call the collective consciousness/unconscious reach you and affect your oniric experience. Basically, it's as if you accessed a webpage where you get random images unknowingly uploaded by people; and who knows? Maybe non-people too.
Some time-fuckery can happen here, and this is one of the circumstances under which you may experience premonitions. I wish I was a tad smarter and well studied to try and explain why this happens, but it's seemingly easier to get access to future/past information the closer you are to the point in both the time plane and physical plane where events took place, but this is also affected by the magnitude of the event.

Last are "contact" dreams. Here you may be consciously and willingly approached by an entity of any given nature with diverse intentions. Delving into the different entities that may find you would be a gargantuan task and all in all we are too ignorant about such things to say much. This is another one of the sources for premonitions...

Just a couple of notes I'd like to make.

First, I want to remark and correct what I said at the beggining. These dream types are RARELY separate or isolated. Most of the time you will stumble upon elements from the first two at the same time, and if you experience a contact dream it will either have some interference from the other two or will be preceded/followed by them.

Second, I strongly believe what you see and experience under the influence hallucinogens and other drugs is of the same nature as dreams, down to the types I talked about. Of course, for better or for worse, we are limited on the type and amount of information we can receive by the way our brain usually functions; drugs alter this status-quo of neuronal activity and increase the possible range for both, but at the cost of reduced filtering of, and control over the information.
