Why is armor so expensive?
Are their any cheap kits for beginners or no?

>Are their any cheap kits for beginners or no?
The cheap way is to build it yourself. It's time consuming so most people choose to pay someone else to do it.
>Why is armor so expensive?
It's niche labor-intensive athletic safety equipment. If you want safety and mobility and somebody else to build it for you it's not going to be cheap. You can choose to compromise on any of these points if you want to spend less money.

In a similar vein to this anon, I’m interested in non financially ruinous options if they are to be had. I’ve been looking at this historicum tinycorn starter set
https://historicum.pl/product/budget-set-tinycorn/
Looks nice enough, funny name for sure but pretty good price, made in Poland I believe (trying to avoid pajeet plate) but I’ve yet to get any experienced opinions on which starter sets are the best deals.
Any tips or recommendations from the experienced crowd?

I'm not kidding, but join Facebook groups for HMB, SCA, and other armored combat. They have marketplaces and even vendors will post sales or excess stock.

i REALLY want to know something about buhurt.
WHAT is the average person like as compared to HEMA. I found that HEMA was very very highly autistic and nerdy. are they perhaps... slightly less autistic? maybe a little bit more athletic? I am dying to know

so this is the consensus, really? ive snooped on a group in a city i will be moving to and from the pictures they look moderately older than the hema people and... only a few of them look tistic. if they really are just as tistic though on the whole then its gonna be a no go. sad. i felt hema because i couldnt stand the people. they all think they are anime protagonists.

If you read the >>>/xs/hema thread you'll see discussions about varying levels of 'tism between clubs. You're posting on /xs/, which is an autism marker itself.
>older
>only a few look tistic
They probably looked more autistic when they were awkward teenagers, they just mask better now after decades of practice.

I always thought armor was cool. And knights were cool. And fighting was cool. So all three together must be super cool, right? Wrong. The armor makes it lame, because on top of that, there's the gay modern sport obsession with safety, so it's like watching a pillowfight. Just why. Why even bother at that point.

I wanted it to be cool so bad and it just sucks.

Every club will be different but my local club is mostly 25-50 year old guys, many of whom are friendly suburban dad types. We’ve got all kinds of people from public servants, tradies, and small business owners to neckbeard autistic dudes who are into playing knights but those types rarely show up to practice. I’d assume because of social anxiety or something, which you’re gonna have to get over if you’re fighting the same dudes very often.

>>224136
Ah the “it’s not sharp weapons so it’s not fun”, guy. If you could actually get killed nobody would do this. Just as medieval knights didn’t (intentionally) use lethal weapons in their tournaments. The point back then as it is today is to show who was the better fighter while keeping the fighters alive so they can continue to improve at fighting.

You think this is an argument in your favor but it isn't. It's the reason none of you are cool. No balls.

People love doing dangerous shit. In /dbt/ we've had multiple people die.

So? Nobody cares if you like it or not. If u wanna be an edgelord and see people get cut up, simply continue to live in your 3rd world shit hole and consider attending some local gang wars and bum fights. This sport is about blunt force impact and standing wrestling in a metal suit.

I don't think you understand how undeniably badass it would be to kill a man in armored combat

Hell, it made Jean de Carrouges a legend

is 2 - 5k a reasonable amount for a semi decent/standard entry level kit? Ive been eyeing a few of the groups in facebook mainly, I should probably ask there but since I saw the buhurt thread, I thought Id check.

Also any of you guys have been/are in a position were there are no 0 clubs in your vicinity or even worse, buhurt doesnt even exist as an anything? Im kinda there and I really want to find a way to start the whole thing, Id probably need to drop my assburgerism and start talking to folks like a normal human bean, I suppose. Any advice?

Yes, 2-5k is to be expected. It's either a decent used car or really good gaming PC. That's the way I look at it.

You might want to start with a related sport, like HEMA or Harnischfechten. The likelihood that the guys who really like grappling in Harnischfechten would do Buhurt are reasonably high and pretty much everything besides attitude and spirit transfers over. Bad thing about Harnischfechten though is building a habit of stabbing or incorporating stabbing as a major part of your fighting style. That's a thing you can do in Harnischfechten but certainly not something you can do in Buhurt because we do not stab and we do not wear chainmail, although I don't think there are rules against wearing chainmail.

Most people choose not to wear chain because it makes you even more unnecessarily heavy when you are already incredibly heavy. So stabs are strictly forbidden in Buhurt, which would be kind of a pain to unlearn if you had been doing Harnischfechten for a long time. Another problem with Harnischfechten is that it's usually run by SCA people and SCA people are.. well incredibly autistic and in some cases insufferable.

With Buhurt you definitely have tism, there are plenty of guys with full on tism in the sport but they are definitely less autistic than SCA. HEMA is in a similar position to Buhurt in that regard.

This was my WMA club back when I took part. No sharps, just wasters and synths, but next-to-no safety equipment. It was fucking dangerous, but so fun.

Good armor needs to be fitted since bad/loosely fitting armor is just as good as guiding attacks into your soft spots as fitted armor is at preventing it
Also full plate armor has never been cheap at any point in history
>Used to be literally the family savings for noble houses
Lastly
>Fitted cloth, leather, webbing, and the knowhow to shape metal into armor
The labor cost of making sense of that alone has always been reasonable, just not necessarily affordable

If you want start cheap get into making chainmail. Especially 6 in 1 stainless steel chainmail ist quite effective and you can somewhat easily adjust it to your liking and size as you add padded gabmesons or plated parts bit by bit. Making protection for your shins and forearms is also quite easy since it's just a bent plate with some leather straps. Helmets and gloves I'd buy because they are more complex butr making them yourself is hard but not impossible.
