Should I learn 3D for a professional career in modeling/animation or should I not?

Do you want to? Then yes. Do you not want to? Then no

yes. you could tryhard the next 6 months or so of your life and youd be able to probably land a job at a local company somewhere and work your way up with job experience from there.
you should try and start out contributing to community mods first as a way to get a grip on the basics and getting a chance to properly kick your feet out in a game that interests you while getting positive feedback on your progress if you deserve it.
thats sorta how i started out but after a while i took my work more serious and was able to basically make a living contracting for international companies. its not much, but its enough for me to live without any restrictions.
