Just how groundbreaking was this video back then?

Pretty wild seeing it on TV, but oddly enough, you could have done just about everything besides the guitar graphics and doodles with practical effects

>you could have done just about everything besides the guitar graphics and doodles with practical effects
>it's a 3D animation of two dudes and a dog moving stuff around

The whole package was a lot to digest.
MUSIC VIDEOS?? COMPUTER ANIMATION???
There was just so much new in the 80s.

There's still a lot of new stuff in our times but we're all accustomed to a lot / maybe fried even and back then stuff just felt like from another planet.

Oh yeah and at the time the industry was crawling with people like this
>I could do that with clay
Don't recall all the names but the biggest guy in fx objected to this chi sequence in start trek generations. He insisted he could do it with clay and the cgi looked like shit. He got cut out, he threw a fit, they did it with cgi, and ended up making a permanent cgi department because of it. The guy who hated it all became the head of that department. That's why you can't get a job.

To be honest, it looks better than most cgi today.
