Will you endure horrible and painful curses to bring back treasures and secret knowledge? Will you give up life on the surface to discover the mysteries of the netherworld's bottom? Will you sacrifice those around you for your own ends? Or will you sacrifice yourself for others? And so on.
The entire basis of dramatic catharsis, going back to the time of Aristotle, is rooted in the nobility of suffering and in seeing the arrogant, vain, or villainous succumb to it and the selfless, decent, and heroic overcome it.
