So, if the cause was 'contact with tanuki' that killed the blue aliens I think the episode would have just SAID that instead of hiding it. Because there are only a couple episodes left in the show, so it feels unlikely that the blue aliens are going to be recurring element that this would be worth revealing later on.

But you know whats been introduced and not capitalized on yet? The virus. if the virus has mutated again and is jumping to alien species, that would be a game changer that would put the hotel, AND OUR TANUKI FRIENDS, in danger. This also gives a purpose for Ponstein, because he is a space doctor who might be able to diagnose and come up with a cure for the virus using space tech that the humans did not have.

This is the start of the arc where curing the virus becomes a priority, which also would allow humanity to come back in the finale.

I thought it was going to turn out he just shed and outer layer or something. I kind of think Pink-cute allergy is a red herring and something about Fuguri's pottery work killed them.

This would also explain why there has been so much focus on the Tanuki in the first place: the ending stakes of the show revolve around the virus, and the robots are naturally immune. There needed to be a character or characters that we care if they live or die, so the show needs us to be invested in at least Ponko and her kid so that when the virus mutates saving them becomes the stakes that matter. Humanity coming back after is the *reward*, but the stakes are saving Ponko.

Theoretically, the hotel becoming a place for alien guests could be argued to be the cause of this mutation in the first place. The virus kept getting exposed to more and more alien biologies until it finally found something it reacted with.

This has been a real sleeper hit of the season for me
last few episodes have all been amazing

maybe season 2 will be about finding a cure if the virus is still lingering through the air affecting everyone. and we still don't know about Yachiyo's colleages from half a millennia ago. who knows, maybe Gingarou hotel isn't one, but many of the hotel chains outside Japan. Whether Ponstin develops a vaccine or just a regular doctor, I'm sure he'll benefit to the arc. I have a feeling next episode one of our Tanuki's is going to grow up again and look different.

The theories on what killed them so far are interesting, in order of likelihood imo:

>2 vase/pot material
>3 atmosphere

Plot wise n1 makes most sense, but at the same time the vase thing was too out of place to have been included. Also, who transmitted the virus? Is it able to stay dormant on any surface for centuries and activate immediately? This is making me reconsider n1. N3 is also very possible but how come they weren't aware even with their insane technology and it would also be the least meaningful

The decision to make Yachiyo instantly choose to cover up the crime was pure genius. Whenever she is confronted with a situation that goes outside the scope of her programming she beep booping in all the wrong directions. My take on why its the virus. Writing wise the vase makes the most sense. However both terrorist and the cop seemed to have a good eye for pottery. Perhaps pottery is a big part of their culture, who knows. If something was wrong though they would have caught on to something. Also, the terrorist never directly touched any pottery. Even his comment about the vase attracting unsavory types was only pointing to his own desire to destroy things that are beautiful. The terrorist starts itching before direct contact with Tamako, so it can't be her. The camera flash is possible but unlikely since the terrorist knew what it was but had no other reaction. It could be the slugs since they mentioned something about secreting. But by having everything in the episode contradict it mimics a closed room where the answer is something that was in the show before the episode was closed. Aka the virus. It also provides a nice way to cycle back to the original plot.
