What if instead of Akatsui's goals changing, Orochimaru simply didn't know them?

IIRC Pain only really explains what the "real" goal of Akatsuki is to the other members in Shippuden, and even that's a lie. There might have been a different official plan in place during Oro's tenure. They're obviously doing things other than biju hunting all the time, even if we're never really shown that.

Maybe the "consideration" for Akatsuki was just the fact that he's just trying to stay under their radar, and if he starts trying to kill hosts they suddenly have a reason to hunt him down because he's messing with their plans? Have we ever actually been told what happens when a host dies? Does the beast also die (and later respawns?)? Does it get released? Either way it must inconvenience Akatsuki or they wouldn't bother kidnapping hosts alive.

Maybe Orochimaru's understanding was that if Naruto is a huge shitter, he's going to die to someone else eventually and Akatsuki will be inconvenienced without Orochimaru being blamed for it. Him placing the seal on Naruto just to nudge him closer to a likely death without actually killing him would be consistent with that. But now that Naruto proved he's NOT a shitter and might become strong, Orochimaru might think it's better to just inconvenience Akatsuki here and now.

And if this was his play, it would even be consistent with him knowing the real goals of Akatsuki.

In retrospect, Naruto dying would leave Kurama temporarily dead and it would take a long time to reincarnate. And in that time, no Tentails and therefore no Infinite Tsukuyomi.
But the Akatsuki don't know about the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Even Pain doesn't know. Only Obito and Zetsu. So Orochimaru shouldn't know that killing Naruto now could potentially prevent an apocalypse.

The callback was pretty bad no matter what. Naruto was using 10 layers of fox hax while neglecting the actual sage stuff. He was only the next Jiraiya during the Pain arc. Sasuke was a Hawk, not a Snake anymore. Sakura was the only one who worked here.
