We're back to some experimentation, and its really funny this time.

Summary for the anons that need it: The girls have opened their Store, but no one is there. Outside a possible customer spots the store, and just as he's about to head in, he trips and the store disappears. Poof! The store opens in a local park where the girls start offering free samples to the visiting kindergarteners. Just before the girls are mauled by the child rush, the man once again sees the shop and tries to go in, before the horde runs over him. Once the kindergarten teacher gets the kids under control the man realizes the teacher is a long lost love and he runs away before they can talk. The girls begin trying different locations acround the city for their store, but none are working. Finally the man makes his way into the shop where Ichika forces more and more sweets on him. He yields and is stuffed full. Afterwards he explains he is looking for cookies to offer the teacher from before. The girls don't have cookies, but they'll figure it out. Next day, the man is about to give up with the girls reappear and hand him a box of cookies and a sample. The sample is amazing and he takes off to meet his long lost love. But the MoTW decides the cookies are his and takes off with the cookies. The Cures appear and in the strangest looking fight they take down the MoTW. But the cookies are no where to be found. Down by the river the man has the cookies, and has to psych himself up to deliver such trashed cookies. He takes off to meet the teacher and gives his best /pc/ offering to a chick, just stumbling all over his words. The girls are there watching, and open the shop right next to them, fully zoo themed now to match the man and teacher's first meeting. Its happily ever after now. Cooking lesson? Axed again.

A lot of the charm this episode, besides the random romance plot, was the girls just trying to deploy the store around the city. From park, to park, to middle of a bridge, random lots in the shopping district, up on the mountain(pic related), in the middle of the shopping district's road, to another park just outside of a kindergarten. Its not much character development, outside of the girls just learning more and more the struggles of being a small business owner. Its adorable at the end of the day.
I suppose Ichika's high pressure salesmanship is another improvement? Disprovement?

I'm really just surprised how decent Fresh is so far, in contrast to the anon from the last thread who said he was having trouble getting into it.
I don't think it's doing anything SPECIAL so far, but it really doesn't waste a whole lot of time getting into good scenarios either. Pacing is excellent and I think a lot of that is owed to the show just going "trust me bro these 3 girls are gigachad friends" with little ado, then validating it with lots of show-don't-tell. Whole thing feels very "lived-in" without need for much explicit setting up, and keeping it limited to 3 goes a long way to not spreading its goodwill too thin in this regard.
I think this also works with how their personalities shine through well even if there are some more explicit moments of (DING DING DING Love has an almost reckless sense of compassion DONG DONG DONG Miki cares for herself the most of the 3 but has a more subtle and nuanced way of showing consideration for others BING BING WAHOO Inori is more of the instinctive, nurturing type).
If there's one point I'm critical on so far, it's the complete disconnect between the "FRESH" titling and fruity cure naming themes and the actual contents of the show - Peach/Berry/Pine is purely token and there's nary a sign of actual freshness or fruit anywhere. FRESH is definitely more meta in concept about breathing energy into the franchise which is fine, and thematic harmony is a crapshoot across the series anyway, so this isn't exactly a bigass complaint or anything. It's just nice when you DO get it (exemplified in shit like HeartCatch and Tropical Rouge).

I feel like Precure only really starts consistently adhering to its yearly theme more often than not starting GoPri. HC going in depth with flower theme was the exception rather than the rule. Other than that, there was FW which does exemplify the Yin-Yang gimmick by focusing on how 2 pretty different girls form their friendship, Suite which did incorporate some musical aspects into its story like the concept of harmony, and HaCha, which does use its fashion theme to give the Cures various costumes, but those are still below average nowadays as far as adherence to the theme of the year goes. Saying that Splash Star is the water season, Yes 5/Gogo are the butterfly seasons, Smile is the fairy tale season, and Doki is the playing card season doesn't give that much insight as to how they are executed.
I honestly do appreciate seasons which don't really let what the executive picked yearly theme is restrict the story it wants to tell, so I don't really mind that Kimi to Idol hasn't gone full idol competition. There are definitely individual episodes that lean into the idol theme, but the overarching plot seems to be mostly unrelated.

Adding onto this, I started watching precure earlier this year with smile and then hopped around the series that came before it. But recently i decided to skip ahead to tropical rouge (because Laura is hot) in spite of the bad things i've heard about it. And while it does have it's flaws (mainly lack of manatsu screen time despite her being the mc) I was still able to enjoy the season enough to rate it an 8/10.

Splash Star's similarities only really get annoying if you do production order and watch it immediately after FW and MH. In general though, the similarities are mostly surface level and don't really apply once Michiru and Kaoru become involved in the second cour or so. That's more of a CLAMP thing, but still in CCS the shoujo elements overtake the "fujo" elements, and hard.
The endgame is 100% shoujo even if some questionable BL stuff is vaguely implied (but even then, it never fully comes to the forefront).

Truth is, the shoujo genre was always ahead of the curve.
