The difference in specs isn't that big and Amuro at the absolute peak of his abilities struggled to beat that jobber Gyunei in what was basically a slightly stripped down Zeta Gundam and a super prototype mobile suit in its own right, something that a newtype ace would use over a Jegan. Meanwhile the Gundam was already basically obsolete by the end of the one year war and so slow and clunky compared to newer designs that it was making a much less skilled younger Amuro angry.
