I hear that this author is writing Silent Hill f, should I watch the anime before playing? Is Hirugashi a hard to understand mindfuck? Remember reading that back in the day, I won't need to read articles online just to understand the plot right?

>Silent Hill f
Is that the one set in Japan even thought the town is in the American Midwest, and also the chick looks middle-aged despite supposedly being a teenager?
Looks like its going to be shit

hardly. Just jump into the VN blind, summer's the best time to boot it up too if you live in a region with lots of cicadas

Looks like it's gonna be peak from what I've seen, yes it's not set in the town in NA but it's haunted small-town Japan instead, so what

From since the second and third instalment the directors said that Silent Hill was more a feeling and concept than a place. The fourth game didn't even take place in SH either.
>the chick looks middle-aged
I mean, judge for yourself I guess
>Looks like its going to be shit
It looks like it's going to be one of the best SH entries ever if R07 pulls through with the story.

The author is a hack who hasn't written anything good in like 20 years, even if you do read higurashi the silent hill game won't have a shred of its quality
If you want to actually check the standard of his writing right now, watch higurashi gou/sotsu (which is terrible)

Has more horror scenes at the start, gives more information from the characters' pov, also the anime is broken up and then you'd also have to remember not to watch the newer gou rei seasons because those are bad.
Ig if you don't mind then the anime is okay but if you want the full vibe I'd recommend the vn.

its rushed as fuck. first episode that is 10 hours long has been compressed to 4 anime episodes so you can imagine how any things been cut from it. honestly just play the VN(with 07th mod) or read the manga. only the anime OVA is worth watching

OK thanks lads I'll Google it, the anime has one of the best OPs ever imo so shame it's rushed, 00s anime always had peak OPs, I hope it's easy to get it setup on win11, widescreen, English, with that mod, I remember way back u needing some real bull shittery to play VNs

is because the anime has more fan service than the horror atmosphere that makes higurashi special
and it ruins the entire premise of the original game
like the picrel from >>279871722 for example

The anime cuts down the nonsense and gives you a good view of the series.
Skip the vn, you'll regret being subject to two hours of BATSU-GAMEUU DAYO every single chapter.

the first chapter of the Higurashi VN is called Onikakushi and its free on steam. so if you feel like it you can download it and try out to see if the games are of ur style. I recommend downloading the Higurashi 07th Mod from the website with the same name to spice up the experience as it will add some model variants as well as a very enjoyable voice acting. all of it free and safe

Read the VN. The anime is a rather bad adaptation with arcs like Tatarigoroshi and Meakashi (3rd and 5th arcs) in particular being butchered. You can even get the voiced version of the games following the instructions here https://wiki.07th-mod.com/ if that interests you though you'll need each game which are easy to find cracked online on steam and gog.

This is one of those stories where the plot makes more sense retroactively rather than progressively. Stuff that seemed like nonsense in the question arcs becomes pretty easy to digest by the time you get to Matsuribayashi.

>I thought VNs were short
Short 8 hour VNs like Saya no Uta and Kikokugai are the exception not the rule. Average would probably be around 20-50 hours.

Depending on your reading speed, Higurashi can take between 70-100 hours. Not even as long as Umineko which is easily over 100 hours.
>I thought VNs were short
It really depends. VNs can have a wide variety of length but on average are 30-40ish hours. Higurashi is of course on the longer side as well as Umineko as they're basically multi game epics whereas even other 07 works like Rose Gun Days and Higanbana in particular are shorter.
