That only works if the main story thread is very much well defined and the plot is simple to understand and thus remember (like kimetsu for example), so that the reader can keep that information in the back of their mind even if it's full of fight after fight chapters.
SD doesn't have a good unifying main story thread, doesn't have a simple to grasp goal that every fight slowly gets the MC closer to, so it ends up feeling like "people fight".
