the author makes an insultingly shitty retcon late in the series towards the end that doesnt effect whats happening in the plot at all but turns K1 into a leashed eunuch for Bell. It serves no purpose at all because its basically dropped immediately after and seemingly only serves to tell every belldandy fan to kill themselves

It's a bad plot point. But massively misinterpreted and misunderstood by people who only heard about it online. The plot introduces a reason that Belldandy and Keiichi never fully got together. And the plot point is stupid. But people interpreted as Belldandy "cucking" Keiichi. When it was actually the gods blocking inter species romance. Very similar to the plot of the movie. And like the movie, Belldandy and Keiichi defy the gods and break the taboo.

The issue is they're pressured by the magazine producers/editors to keep stringing the audience along. It's stupid but the minute you wrap up a relationship, or have the characters show affection, most of the audience throws a fit and leaves. Either because the conclusion wasn't the one they had been shipping this whole time or they were only there for the whole "will they, won't they" dynamic. So many of these authors try to come up with a clever way to do a half-way ending or hint at a conclusion. And usually it has an even worse reaction.

So many anime and manga have inconclusive endings because the audience will hate any ending.

AMG started as an Urusei Yatsura fanfic. Fujishima thought it was going to run for around six months and did it as a side-project to his main title You Are Under Arrest but unknonw to him, AMG hit the zeitgeist of a generation of young men scare of working women and growing up. AMG was the perfect escapist fantasy for men who wanted a mom as a girlfriend.

You're just projecting. Fujishima divorced 2 years after AMG ended and he was a serial cheater. He even fucked Naoko Takeuchi while he was still married. It's just that Fujishima's wife wanted their kids to grow up first and Japan tend to see divorced women as failures. Before his divorce, Fujishima had a real-life harem with his wife, a mistress and a barely legal cosplayer. The problem was that the cosplayer got pregnant so Fujishima had to marry her instantly. His mistress later sued Fujishima because he asked her to leave the apartment he was paying after telling her for years that he was just about to divorce his wife to marry her. It was a clusterfuck but it was after AMG ended. In fact, the OL spin-off still ran years after the scandal. It's not like AMG fans have anything in life besides Belldandy

I've also said that YUA is one of the few anime that would actually work as a western adaptation. The problem is, they would fuck it up and just turn it into Law and Order SVU. But with a second female lead lecturing the audience. They would take the concept and have to "subvert" it like they do everything.
