Some people think it's when they decided to keep Undead Unluck for so many chapters (they seem to be kinder to Yozakura), other think it's when Kill Blue and Nue were allowed to run for so long (it's less about the sales, more about the quality of manga). And people think that WSJ keeping Kiyoshi (c-tier battle manga straight from late 00s) and Hima-ten (the blandest kind of a romcom) is the direct result of something like KB and Nue being allowed to live for so long. Not to mention, a lot of people talk about how Japan is struggling with an economic crisis right now (inflation and a weak yen) not like back then when Mugen Train dropped. Several comments even say, "Who has money for a family movie trip now?" and "Streaming is easier. Why go to the theater?" And knowing Aniplex, they will absolutely release Infinity Castle for TV like they did with Mugen Train. They're infamous for doing that.

The die-hards will show up, but the general crowd that helped push Mugen Train to $400M+ are not throwing money around anymore, especially for what looks like a setup film.
