watched it a few months ago and to be honest, frieren has made it hard for me to go back to enjoying "normal" anime.

i get bored instantly trying to get into new seasonals or "classic" shows like eva or cowboy bebop. the character development, the emotions, and the worldbuilding just seem really third-rate by comparison. it's like going back to games you played as a kid and realizing how shallow they are compared to the stuff for adults. it's honestly depressing

has anyone else experienced this?

Are they able to connect to the story about the old dwarf who cannot remember the face of his lost wife but sits guarding her hometown simply because it was her wish and he loved her so much he tries everything to keep connected to her? Obviously not compared to someone who knows what it's like to have lost someone and dearly wishes to keep hold of those memories they had with them despite time cruely trying to take those away from you.

There are tons of these emotionally resonant stories in Frieren but it won't be the same for people who share less life experiences

i don't really care about themes this or deep that, i went through that phase in the 90s
i just want characters i'm interested in doing things i'm interested in seeing happen in settings i'm interested in
