THIS.
The actual state of the industry reminds me of that XKCD panel that says
>There is 14 competeng standards
>This situation is shit, we need to make a new standard that covers all use cases
>There is now 15 competing standards
In the anime industry it would be like
>There are 14 competing anime studios
>This situation is shit, we need to make a studio that doesnt treat us like slaves and strives for quality
>There are now 15 competing anime studios
But the problem, is not that there are a bunch of anime studios, it runs deeper than that.
I am not an anime industry expert with cunning insights from insiders leaks, but the industry right now its in a sorry state where the studios are cannibalizing each other.
yeah, we get more anime than ever, but at what cost? Most anime these days have hentai levels if QUALITY, there are stories that you cant help to wonder "how the fuck did this got greenlighted?" or the almost carbon copy stories that flooding the industry because its the flavor of the year, and then we get all the studios wanting to grab one of those 90% identical stories to rushingly release it before the fad gets over, before the horse gets beaten beyond anything recognizable.

The more you spend the more you have to make back. This is why, say, an indie game can be a knock out success if it breaks a million sales but something like a major AAA studio release needs to sell 10 times as much just to be a regular success.

Musicians realized this so vinyls and touring made a comeback.
The problem is that anime bluray sales have plummeted to irrelevancy.

Anime make most of their money off of merch sales like BD's and figurines and such.
If an anime does very well in terms of ratings and popularity but poorly in terms of money, that tends to be a sign that the fanbase is underaged.

Most of them are just recombination of existing staff for whatever reasons. I never heard anyone saying it's done to increase worker's standards. Old studios became dysfunctional, bankrupt, or lose key staff for various reasons. New studios soak up whatever remains. The new studios may seem fresh and ambitious, but actually there's little change.

They need to understand that appealing to normalfags is not true success, when your audience is a bunch of broke blacks that will pirate your show and never buy any merch or a bunch of white zoomers that only collect funko pops, you are not gonna make any money

Do something that appeals to otaku and theyโ€™ll give you tons of money thatโ€™s how isekai shows get to have 4 seasons

>Streaming doesn't pay the bills.
This has always been a huge issue. You can say something got a billion streams but it's easy to stream. Most people who stream probably got the service for a lot of other things already. It's too hard to tell where the draw is. And since you're not selling something of the actual show or getting tv sponsors there's really no revenue beyond what the platform will pay you.

If the anime industry actually wants to save itself, it needs the West. Cut out the middleman and sell us full box sets of entire seasons, $100 dollars each. Make a paid manga app(s) that contains ALL the manga, make releases completely up-to-date and charge us $10 a month. Market merchandise to the west for once, instead of us having to use third parties like ZenMarket. The weeb community here is big enough. They'd get out of the red overnight.

Pretty sure mobile games are one of the biggest profit engines for anime right now. You probably don't hear about it outside of Japan, but basically every halfway popular anime has a scammy mobile game that gets advertised every commercial break. They can decide whether they want it to be profitable or unprofitable on paper by paying it more or less for the shit it makes. Just completely meaningless clickbait garbage

They are dumb and think that art style is all that matters. China and Korea's biggest problem is their garbage writing style, and they are too proud to fix.
I have read some great Chinese comedy 4komas, but they only want to animate their stupid chuuni crap instead of starting with something simple.

It's not even the merch quality so much as whether the characters have a fervent fan following. If you look at something like
JJK, the merch is mostly stupid useless plastic shit, but it sells like hotcakes because fans will buy any piece of trash with Gojo's face printed on it. I don't think Solo Leveling is attracting any waifu and husbando fags.

Yeah, the webtoon is by no means a masterpiece in the early game, but it declines during the guild and america arc and drops the fuck off comparatively once they drop the leveling mechanic. The reset ending is absolute putrid shit. If season 3 even happens, I see it being the end of the anime because nothing major even happens.

FUCKING HOW? Even after all of these touted shortcuts, technological advancements (read: degradation in quality), cutting corners, shifting away from the "slave labor sweat shop model of animation," studios STILL can't make a profit or survive? Are you fucking kidding me? You mean to tell me that I have been watching anime for the past three decades that have been steadily declining in animation quality, art quality, design quality, and FIVE-TONE SHADING QUALITY, and yet studios are still struggling?

What is the point then? Maybe we should just cut the pretense, do away with all of the bullshit, go back to making these animators slave labor, and bring back the five-tone shading already. Because this is fucking horse shit. If studios still can't survive after switching to CG, then the whole system is fucked. Let's go back to cell animation already.

It has no fandom, it is essentially a dead franchise in Japan which is always the market that matters the most
Sales of BD, manga, merch amount of colabs were all terrible, it's making next to no money from these and that's how they hope to make the production costs back so obviously the production company lost a shit ton of money.

Supply exceeded demand. The whole Japanese economy, just like the West as a whole, is in the grimest state at best. Japan is still the BIGGEST buyer of dollars in 2025, can you imagine that? Now one of the ONLY real competitive Japanese industries such as the anime show entertainment business is barely surviving. People can't even afford anime merch either now. As everyone knows creating anime is really hard, labor-intensive job with meagre pay, so more and more people are avoiding this job. Kerorira and Saito Keiichirou of BTR and Frieren are suddenly getting on a new recruitment project for their anime industry and Trigger is also recently demanding the new labor forces for it. Things seem not quite right anons. The second golden age of the anime industry since the 2010s might be on very thin ice right now.

You'll get thousands of images of fanart while it's trending and poor impulse people will go even further. But then it just ends and the fandom dies down. Nobody's really still INTO something when it's finished. The curtain falls and it's off to the next big fad. And that's what these all are. Not fandoms. Faddoms.
