This anime destroyed me. Left me absolutely emotionally devastated. Only other thing that ever came close was the suicide pact episode of Paranoia Agent/Shonen Bat.

Where do I even go from here? What is there to do after this? It's been 2 weeks and I still think of it constantly.

Just discovered Takopi and watching first episode it's such a flop for me. It handles the themes of suicide in a much more hamfisted and stupid manner. I can't tell if it's meant to be dark humor but I hope so because it's freaking comical. Why does modern anime lack nuance?

Yeah it can bring you to almost falling asleep, but I actually liked that about it. I loved the sort of subdued and muted tones, sound design, and outro music. The entire time I felt myself falling deeper into an almost trancelike state similar to watching serial experiments lain. I honestly think an anime like this is best watched late at night/early in the morning when you're already tired and almost drifting off. It fits with the surreal and melancholic atmosphere. Definitely became instantly one of my favorites of all time. Idk what to even watch now, I doubt I'll find anything else that can live up to it.

I think the real pseud take is that people supposedly cannot have preferences if they can't dress them up to some quasi-analytical terms you prefer. Most people still base their opinions directly on the emotions and impressions they first get from watching an anime, this kind of thing doesn't really change even if you put on your analysis goggles afterwards and vocalize to Reddit why the specific thing made you feel what it does.

If you really want something more, read Abe's Haibane doujins that have some extra stuff in them and I guess you can read the Murakami book if you're really hardcore Haibanehead (or like reading in general I guess)

I was in the SPECULAH threads since the beginning and even I don't think that. Haibane Renmei top to bottom is a very serious, contemplative thing. SnW is a high school club anime dropped into a mysterious setting. I love both but if someone asked for quality anime recs HR would be much further up the list than Houkago Wehrmacht Time.
