sometimes 1.2 but at that speed dialogue starts to run into each other, although i did watch naruto/boruto at 1.5x and that made it watchable because so much of that is dead air, literal holding shots between dialogue sentences to pad out time

After watching anime at 1x my entire life I tried to watch an episode at 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x. I wanted to at least have an educated opinion on the issue. At first I tried it on a regular seasonal anime (Watari-kun) and then I tried it on one of my favorite anime (Zeta).
That was fucking nonsense, the soundstage was all fucked up. If you care at all about voice acting then it is a nonstarter. Literally no emotion can be felt at all when I tried to watch more impactful scenes. Action scenes had no weight.
I would rather watch 1 anime at normal speeds than watch 2 anime in the same amount of time. People watching it at higher speeds aren't getting the most out of it obviously but I think they aren't even getting the minimum out of it.
This experience has left me paranoid too, now every time I see someone say "this doesn't make sense" or "this didn't have impact" I will think they watched the episode/series at 1.5 or something.

I can slightly understand this if you compare it to what we experience with watching dubs. Plodding, repetitive dialogue gets more annoying for me in English than in Japanese. Take for example Dondochakka, his verbal tic is -de ariusu at the end of every sentence and in the dub it’s DONTCHA KNOW?? which is insufferable. The voice actors are 100x better with jap audio though. 1.5x speed is still insane though, the show isn’t good if you have to speedrun it

Why? It's not a job. The good thing about a 6 hours series is that it allows you to kill time for 6 whole hours. You've watched it all in 1.5 hours and now you have to find something new to watch, which you probably will also do at 2x speed. What is the point?

i think youtube was the first ones to implement it. i have an addon that lets me speed up video as much as i want, and it's not until you get to past 4x speed that it starts breaking down.
