Gotou is such a wallpaper character, iirc he doesn't even have any male friends either. Paisen makes more sense because his weakness is the reason for bullying (initially) so it works in the story. Another bullshit romcom that works is Hitomi chan, that one has both characters be incredibly awkward, and they only just kinda happened to fall for each other. I'll share a trick I've learned for better transparencies: cut one pixel into the lineart with your cutout, then do a 1 pixel outer glow (photoshop/photopea)/drop shadow (gimp) filter on the layer, set to the same color as the lineart.
Then check your work by paint bucketing white and black behind it. You can get them fairly flawless/seamless this way. Pic related.
