I am deeply worried about how few children have genuine "friends" they go somewhere to play with anymore. When I grew up, every single person on the street knew everyone else by name. Potlucks and block parties were common. Sitting on the porch every evening taking turns with hand-cranked ice cream makers. Backyard barbecues that literally any neighbor was free to walk in on, unannounced, it was just expected. The daily routine was for all the kids to "make the rounds" in the morning to all the homes that would give them cookies and candy. I actually felt bad remembering that when I got older, just being a greedy kid going up to a neighbor's house expecting candy, but I found out later that all the old folks absolutely loved it. There's nothing that gives old couples/widows whose kids have long since moved away more joy than feeling needed and appreciated by kids.

>>280279312Yes and no. There definitely is a default Japanese "curry" that comes to mind, but there are a lot of varieties of roux and spices in the store these days. But there totally is a "yup, it's curry"-curry that everyone thinks of when they make curry. Pretty basic, standard root vegetables, descended from UK-style recipes, and thin.
Authentic Indian curry (distinct as インドカレー and typically much thicker and spicier) in Japan is really really fantastic too since prior to recent changes in immigration laws, the only Indians who came to Japan were extremely high IQ, motivated talented entrepreneurs.
