This is also ignoring how much ass Jack tore through in the MT and his return in dismantling the first consistent arc rival Baki had in Ali Jr.

That's because Jack, in a weird way, was strong enough to withstand it from the get-go. He was already unique in that he was able to survive the side effects of the super drug. Maxing and purging was his body trying to tell him to stop.

He wasn't "overhyped." He was set up as Baki's foil. The secret of him being his brother was foreshadowed well enough and even Yujiro acknowledged his strength and dedication. The only one-off he beat up on was Silva. Garland showed up and was being set up as a real threat by dumpstering Hanayama and the anaconda and he was made out to be the real deal. Aside from them, he wrecked Shibukawa pretty cleanly despite him having thrashed Doppo. And this is a Doppo who only recently made Yujiro get serious so he wouldn't look bad in front of a crowd and his son.
I don't know how anyone can say he was overhyped in his very first appearance when he was set up exactly as he was intended to be. If anything, he gets downplayed super hard by people in subsequent arcs for how little he appears and how he gets jobbed out against Pickle.
