I’ve never watched season 3, I’m hesitant because I don’t like the change in animation style, but something that has always rubbed me the wrong way is that Alicia is ~3 years older than Akari, but when Akari becomes skilled enough to become a Prima, Alicia then has to fuck off/retire. It felt more natural of course when Alicia became a Prima and took over because her senior is like 40 years older than her, but I really dislike the Alicia/Akari situation. I don’t mind if you spoil, is there anything I’m missing or not understanding?

Season 3 is the most powerful season.
wrt to Alicia and Grandma...it's not explicitly stated in the anime at all(to my knowledge), but I think it makes perfect sense int he context of them showing the happy retired Undine with her family and then earlier contrasting it with Grandma being seemingly alone.
I'm not saying that Grandma is unhappy or anything, nor does it try to imply that from anything I recall.
But if thinking about it from Alicia's perspective she has all of these pluses going for her that could push her to retire early:
>She's leaving at the top(they make it seem like she's the #1 out of the 3, she's on the cover of the magazine and such)
>She has a good secondary career lined up for her where she can put her knowledge to good use and possibly make long lasting improvements and have a bigger impact than simply being #1
>She has someone she is confident can carry Aria Company into the future and maintain it in a way that everyone involved would be proud of and happy with
>If she wants to start a family, she has evidence from her friend that it's a fulfilling life worth pursuing and won't be one filled with true regret(she'll miss it, but they differentiate the show in earlier seasons between regret and happy memories that you're glad happened - I don't know how to explain it properly, but it's a common theme)

I don't know, overall I really think it was written well with a very mature take on the situation.
You could say she 'got over herself' and matured at a young age, balancing out what she thinks is the best path for her. Which seems to be very rare. Like she's considering things with a long term view and just trying to be Grandma 2.0 isn't for her.

I would agree with that. My time in Venice was that it felt like a tourist trap. So much history, beautiful archictecture, but when you're stuck in pedestriant traffic because 5 couples need to take the perfect selfie on a bridge it gets annoying.
That being said, there were still magical spots. Wonder enough and you could escape the crowd and explore. The architecture is marvelous and if my job would allow I'd be willing to move there even with all the tourists. There was one particular alley way I went down where I heard a man crying. It was coming from some tourist shop in an empty alleyway. I wish I were a better person and walked in to talk to him.

Since Ko means girl/child he combines those with Momi-ko, Sideburns-girl.

I find it to be such a good re-watchable show though.
Even if I hold off on season 3 sometimes as well because it's a bit too good and I just want to chill.
Season 3 isn't even the end either depending on how you want to view the OVA/movies.

I never really got why the supernatural elements completely disappeared in Origination. Was it like Akari grew up over the course of S1 and S2 which lead to her deciding not to board Cait Sith's train and shutting her out from being involved in further supernatural events? Like in Kiki's Delivery Service when Kiki lost her magic?

I wouldn't mind getting around to rewatching this, if just to make stitches.
