You guys mentioned they changed the duck lips chapter punchline and I see that they sort of did, but they did it by adapting what happened in Volume 13 when Niikura and Nagumo tried the ducklips again. Pretty directly.

So, yeah, rather than having a punchline simmer for 171 chapters, it seems Awari figured we aren't adapting that stuff so he put it early.

I watched the second episode. So, yeah, we're getting a lot of stuff cut out but it seems like it isn't being cut out arbitrarily. I think Awari did his best to figure out how to make the main skits in and keep the emotional heart of the series in place. So, I'm optimistic. But I'll admit, it isn't the same. Still, very cute stuff.

It's pretty to look at but it's trying too hard to be funny by being over the top, but somehow in a way that doesn't seem genuine like it was in Nichijou. I think I laughed maybe once at the end with the multiple devils. The rest was honestly boring as hell.

Ok, so I was one of the anons dunking on this guy a few weeks ago, but I have to concede he's been right about everything so far. Why was he such a smug asshole about it?

But for real, why DID KyoAni decide to adapt it like this? Were they afraid they wouldn't be able to get more seasons if they planned it that way? My takeaway from the first two episode has been it's fantastic if this is your first introduction to the series, and slightly frustrating if you've read the manga.

Ishidate wanted to adapt it, but kyoani doesn't want to take the full risk of a 2-cour show because they're in a difficult financial position - I'm sure kyoani is pretty desperate to keep Ishidate, considering the amount of talent that left. It has funny moments, but it's not a comedy. It's more of a fun slice of life with a few jokes thrown in.
The second episode delivered more funny moments than the first episode, although none of them were as funny as the funniest moment of the first episode.
I do hope it gets funnier in future episodes, but I've accepted that the show is going more for the comfy fun, smile-on-your-face type of show, rather than a straight comedy like Nichijou.

Anime is well made, but more on the comfy side than the funny side.
So there's a lot of grumpiness about this, but I'm still liking the anime (although my heart aches every time about the skipped parts).
I think you can read the manga as well (after the end or whenever, I don't know), it will be a different experience, also because often Arawi does a good job playing the strenghts of the medium.

She's voicing a major character

CITY is what Nichijou was trying to be. All the activities in Nichijou were fairly aimless, and although it captured a community along with both their differences and similarities nobody really had any ambition beyond status quo. Everyone in CITY has been set up for some kind of change or goal in their lives and we're watching it all unfold as we see into their diverse worlds and motivations. The weirdness is also being properly contained this time, it doesn't completely fly off the handle as it did in Nichijou.

Also, it's not even in like the top 80 of most popular series this year, and if this really well made show kills Kyoani, something the fucking arson couldn't do, pic related.

i feel like they should have left it in the first episode since it gives the characters an objective (repay debt) than rearranging for later episodes, i feel like it filitered alot of people who wants a basic running plot than random little stories

I love City so far but one thing I already know is the cast could never live up to Nichijou.
The main nichi trio is already perfect but when you add in nano, hakase and sakamoto you can a main cast of 6 character were no one takes the spotlight of one another and everyone is easily best character contender.
What makes Nichijou even more of a masterpiece is the supporting cast, sakura sensei, ehhh girl, karasu, nakamura, misato, sasahara, I don't think there's a single character in Nichijou who isn't memorable, even the fucking afro kid.
