quick feedback/tip from a proxy purchase I recently made:
I bought some manga covers, a manga and a small acryl stand. It should easily have fit inside a letter and been cheap. shipping cost 3600jpy (instead of ~1330). why? because the manga cover is like 65cm tall, and I expected them to just fold it like the previous ones I bought long ago, but these were bigger and they judged against it. so they just looked at it and figured they would avoid the potential bad ratings because "you sent it folded wah!" (you can unfold it and it loses the creases quickly, but people complain in reviews here and there). so they grabbed a big box that fits and filled 90% it with small air cushion bags and I paid a big price for a nearly empty box I can balance with just one finger.
the lesson? if you think what you're buying fits in a letter but something needs to be folded, you should try to tell them to do that or else they're going to go with the safest option, at your expense!
