The jutsu in part 1 were all extremely basic.

I was asking myself why I hated Boruto part 2 so much, as I was watching Shippuden, and it hit me.

I was actually happy to see the characters grow up. They looked great, they (mostly) fought great, and they were more or less the same characters I adored in part 1. I don’t give a shit about any of Boruto’s friends, and we don’t see them apart from the InaShikaCho trio (who all became uglier to boot). The most interesting one, that guy that cosplays as Kakashi, isn’t even canon.

And then there’s the villains. The akatsuki were awesome, Orochimaru and kabuto were awesome, Madara was amazing, Kaguya not so much but the series was on its way out by then. Boruto’s villains just aren’t as captivating. The only thing I can tell you is that they’re hideous because I can’t bring myself to actually read the rest of the series because it’s got no redeeming qualities, and I only ever see it talked about when Boruto fans are rage baiting on social media

So Shueisha WAS lying when they said Kishimoto was in charge of this shit, then? I was already skeptical when I first heard that, but that Minato one-shot made it clear as day that someone was lying about Kishi's involvement. Both writing wise and art wise.

That one shot was amazing but it also pissed me off because we could have had a version of Boruto that didn't look like shit, one where the fights are good, the double page spreads are gorgeous, and the new characters actually look like they belong to the franchise and the old ones don't look like chubby korean babies with down syndrome.

Sakura is not incompetent - she just doesn't belong in the main cast, because she lacks a decent character arc (that isn't her going circles around Sasuke). Depends on when in the manga you're talking about, because it was subtly retconned as things went along. At the start of the series the hidden villages are just that, hidden villages that train ninjas to hire out to people and if need be serve the ruling non-ninja Lords of the nations where they are based, and modern tech is seen all over the place. As the series goes on this is gradually rewritten and the "Hidden Villages" go from these small secret places that exist within a larger world to basically capital cities that openly rule each nation and ninjas go from professionals who take jobs from others to a ruling class whose work is at their own behest, with the Kage's basically becoming kings who answer to no one. Modern technology while still occasionally present also increasingly fades into the background. The entire Ninja system also goes from something deliberately portrayed as being fucked up and amoral to being portrayed as good, natural, and right and all the bad stuff being laid at the feet of a few bad apples.
