I guess the unique thing about Frieren demons is that they're basically just playing a game to kill humans and nothing else. But that's basically not too different from just making every demon into satan storywise. Frieren demons are more like Mazuko from Slayers in that they are alien entities rather than evil beings. Well Mazoku can’t even take a physical form unless they’re pretty strong, and can’t take a human-looking one unless they’re among the top in strength, and also their power level is vastly superior to humans and it’s generally not possible for a human to beat one in battle. They’re more like lower deities now that I think about it. Anyway, they are similar to Frieren demons in that it’s not that they’re “evil”, it’s that they lack an empathic / moral circuit entirely. Experienced ones can recognize it and imitate it, like how a human can imitate bird calls, but they don’t understand it. The human naturally thinks he or she has built up a trust relationship, but that’s just their empathy circuit talking. So demons are more like aliens who are not compatible with human civilization.

Not evolution, it’s more like adaption. Demons do not have family units and have no concept of family ties, they are literally born and grow up on their own in solitude. The only civilization they had was under the Maou (Demon King). I don’t know how their reproduction works or how dumping newborns in the wilderness is a successful reproduction strategy, nor do I understand why a demon mother would want to have children in the first place, and we’ll probably never have those questions answered it’s just not the point of the manga hence no thought was put into the subject. BUT, if demons have to grow up since newborns by themselves, and there’s no demon society to take them in, they will naturally seek human society and adapt to use humans as both a cover to protect themselves, and immediate access to their “food” supply (although it’s unclear to what degree they’re motivated to kill). Under the Maou they were in the army, but now they only need live for themselves. Maybe in larger cities there are secret societies of demons based on a strength hierarchy, sort of like there’s vampire cabals. Maybe in some cities the underworld society knows of the local demons just as they know of the local necromancers, Assassin’s Guild, etc. f course the manga is too stupid to ever explore these concepts so this is all just fanfiction.
