Man, Kawaguchi really take after Horikoshi, the story is incredibly boring and he goes in most safe and tired storybeats.
MHA at least has a interesting setting and fun character interactions that hooked you up even if the story was mid, but Otr has nothing of sorts.

We still don't know is editor for kawaguchi.

Keep the original design with the exposed navel.
Make the flame spirit an edgy male spirit that wants to burn the world and has to be kept in check through willpower.
Make The flame spirit work like a burning armor that delivers powerful attacks but slowly consumes Otr's body and the area surrounding it so Otr can't overuse his powers and needs to rely on other abilities.
Make the first big villain an ice shota that has the upper hand until Otr's spirit goes nuclear (badly injuring Otr in the process) and humbles him without killing him, prompting him to be bullied by his fellow ice guys until he abandons them.
Make Six appear after the big confrontation, make him the bearer of another spirit and let him train Otr to control his flame spirit.

I don't think shota mc is at on it's own, in fact kawaguchi could have used him as a fujo or shotafag bait.
I mean zach bell and naruto works even tho they have a shota mc (initially in naruto's case) but in otr case i don't think otr actually interact with other character beyond exposition dump or to move the plot forward and currently we still doesn't know his character beyond the surface level crap like he's a chef and his father train him or that he doesnt like the ice kingdom because they're bad and other insignificant shit.

The first half isn't dramatic. That weakens the powerup of the second half.
Have Sindra hammering her life away to boost the Iron Spirit and Otr's power the whole chapter. And have Otr switch from struggling to defend Sindra at the forge to attacking more as the power builds up. Etupirko can drop in with a clutch block for Sindra at the midpoint.
There's your dramatic struggle. More work tho.

That probably would have worked a lot better than what we got since now the mangaka is going to struggle quite a bit to make the antagonists feel in any way threatening since all it took was a bland training arc and now the main character has jumped to kicking in the teeth of their best.
The team effort thing is a good point too since the main character getting two spirits while the person with any connection whatsoever to the spirit gets jack makes me suspect that this is going to be one of those series where the side characters are just glorified cheerleaders.

The main character is too powerful and the side characters are cardboard. I'd honestly have the same criticisms for Kiyoshi. Flat, boring, hard to define personalities for the main characters too. Flashy but uninteresting combat. Mind numbing dialogue that your eyes glaze over without your brain actually wasting any resources processing it. Well at least it has character design over Kiyoshi though not by much. Maybe they share editors.

Kiyoshi is worse because it started off better. The personalities of the side cast were pretty well defined. At least that was the case back when there was more of an emphasis on comedy and slice of life. I lost interest in it when it decided to focus more on the boring combat but apparently that is when it started ranking better.

Kiyoshi had the wrong main character. Nehan and Jack Joe are better in every way. They aren't already established to be the strongest. They're up and coming. The dynamic and friendship between these two is interesting. They aren't repulsive to look at. Jack Joe and his past as an evil demon is something to explore. That series is a lost cause because it tried and failed to be a Mashle clone and the pieces aren't good enough to salvage.

I'm not sure how to salvage Otr either. It's so one note emotionally to read. Just pure boredom and apathy. No lighthearted moments. No wholesome moments. No comedic moments. The characters narrate at each other constantly. The conversation doesn't flow naturally at all. It's constant no stakes serious. Giving Otr the power up instead of a newly introduced side character is so retarded. Watching Otr fight isn't interesting that you might as well have a side character fight too and you can justify the general losing since it suddenly became 2 vs 1.

Ichi the Witch and Shinobi Undercover don't have these problems like these other series do.
