This series got ragged on for a reason. It has an interesting premise/setting but doesn't even stick to it properly for more than half a season. The 'plot' is just asspull after asspull, and just like most LNtrash that gets popular, its destined to just go on forever as a money-making machine instead of reaching any satisfying conclusion. So it was less him playing smart and acting quickly and more him having insider knowledge compared to everyone else.

Well yeah, you get into the beta of the game you'll know a bit more obviously like others did too. He made it farther than many others, but again, he played it smarter than other people did by not just standing around and freaking out. You can go back and watch it they were all still there while he was quick to run out to get started before others did.

Yeah thats been a thing of criticism even Reki acknowledges with others cause it was his first time writing anything. Progressive is what helped with a lot of stuff he has improved.
But either way even still, he got on out and knew the right quests and better areas before the panic stopped and people went out. The whole death aspect and no log out shocked everyone but kirito was pretty much the type that seemed to enjoy the risk a little, so other beta players were likely scared as well.
