Be they robots, cyborgs, clones, monsters, animals, and horrors beyond human comprehension
that other anon put it very well, more or less-- the big, most common things through most of Nihei manga is cool, fantastic architecture, weird body horrors, and concise dialogue writing,
Tower Dungeon has a lot more written dialogue than most of his other work (notable exception to Knights of Sidonia which got retardedly wordy at times iirc) but almost none of it seems wasted or superfluous to the adventure. This sort of comfy atmosphere with a big friendly party of heroes is uncommon in his earlier stuff-- I keep expecting fucked up things to happen to the tower dungeon crew but so far things are very light and comfy
You really have to read Blame!, however.
Go and read it as soon as possible.
