Nihei manga used to be about bleak sci fi settings involving main characters that act vaguely human with rare flashes of emotion. Rule of cool and the rare visual dark humor gag during sporadic brutally quick fights using high caliber guns and hyper sharp blades. He tried too hard with Sidonia to incorporate his strange, abstract sci fi alien biology fetishes. Aposimz was also weird mutant biomechanical biology stuff mixed with post apocalyptic misery porn and tonally off beat humor. Tower Dungeon is his best characters and a the setting keeps it's "sci fi" elements to a minimum so there's time for characters to develop instead being lost some high stakes plot over humanity's survival like all his other works. His art was amazing for sci fi architecture and biomechanical mutants, became generic for while until now where it looks like a nice balance between his highly detailed stuff and his simpler modern style.

I think that Nihei may be telling us that the shitamancer is Aridellia's parent - the timeline is that the shitamancer robbed the original drakmetamor's tomb and (maybe accidentally) left the larval Aridellia there. Also, the shitamancer is the only other living necromancer we know of.

Tower Dungeon has a lot more written dialogue than most of his other work (notable exception to Knights of Sidonia which got retardedly wordy at times iirc) but almost none of it seems wasted or superfluous to the adventure.This sort of comfy atmosphere with a big friendly party of heroes is uncommon in his earlier stuff-- I keep expecting fucked up things to happen to the tower dungeon crew but so far things are very light and comfy

I think frieren made me confused in a similar way, but for a different reason being that characters spoke to each other in a monotonuous official style, but it could be a translators misstep on adapting original text (like in biomega where toa operatives used dry and official style, like a bureaucrat, instead of short and efficient one like special agents/police/soldiers etc.
