So your only complaints are that the show reuses animation (less than minute per episode) and that a 14yo girl doesn't act in the exact way you wanted her to (as some epic manly oneshot heroman)
Why even make a stupid thread like this about three decades old show for little girls and pretend like you shat out some criticism

The show was often on TV as a double slot hour with DBZ.
But DBZ was harder to follow and looped the same fights that took multiple whole episodes. So it was much harder to understand what was going on in DBZ when you come in at episode x and watch a whole episode of one fight and don't know who is who.
On the other hand, SM was pretty straight forward hybrid slice of life with attractive anime girls.
For a lot of people it was probably their first anime they watched after school.
I honestly don't remember if it was technically my first anime or not, but it might as well have been.
I remember going to the video store(yes, old) and seeing stuff like Akira and Ghost in the Shell for rent.
But SM was the most accessible.

New to magical girl anime? It's only not fun to watch if it's shit like Sailor Moon is. "Boy driven anime", at least these days, don't often have transformation sequences so I don't see why that's relevant. A more equivalent example would be older mecha anime that had reused launch animations.

Sorry but unlike (you), I am an adult and as an adult, my time is very valuable. I would prefer not to waste it by watching some silly girl dance around to change into an ill fitting costume over and over. Same thing with these long 2 min intros. There are over two HUNDRED episodes of Sailor Moon, If I were to watch them all in one sitting, that would be 400 minutes alloted to just the theme song, I repeat, 400 MINUTES.
Nearly 7 hours of my life, stripped from me all just to hear the same song. And this isn't even getting to the other reused bits.

I mean, I watched it as a kid. And these threads make me nostalgic and consider watching it again.
I can skip repetitive parts with a touch of a key and such.
I don't know if I will end up watching it again, but it's tempting just to see if I can get that nostalgia buzz.
It's not like it's going to have any effect on my life.
I still do watch anime. I don't know if I'd enjoy watching something strictly for nostalgia more than I'd enjoy some other show that genuinely interests me.
But it doesn't seem to crazy to try at some point.

I'm not even going to say "it's a show for girls" because at the time it seemed even the anime that girls seemed to like such as Slayers or Rayearth were leagues better than Sailor Moon. The whole series is junk.
I think the ONLY reason it has any legs at all for nostalgia is that it was a gateway into hentai and dudes remember it for that.

Nobody is doing that yet, so I might as well.
First off, it's filled to the brim with 90s quirkiness and humour, even the worse episodes will still be moderately entertaining to watch because of that alone. It's "soulful", as the younguns would call it. Makes the best out of its animation budget.

Usagi might as well be my favorite anime MC all things considered. She is cute, her shenanigans are always hilarious, the writers are not afraid of making her flawed and disagreeable at times(mostly her behavior with Mamoru once they are into a relationship) despite still being an all-loving idealistic heroine, she does suffer some actual (usually short-term) consequences for her behavior without going all the way into making her pitiful, slowly but surely goes through sensible character development without turning into another person.

The plot structure is simplistic, magical girls fight against bad guys who want to take over or blow shit up, but has a nice execution and some cool epic lore behind it. The main girls are all nice(with one notable exception... yes I mean the pink small one), the recurring side-characters are cute as well, and it has a balanced ratio of interesting villains(especially R) and ones that are just plain evil.
Only issue I can point out here is that, for a MOTW format, it doesn't have much in the way of interesting fights.

The romance themes work at first, then it's honestly barely there. First season does it right especially since the girls all get their own quasi-love interests, but then they just drop that entirely to focus on Usagi and Mamo(who is not very interesting honestly, Usagi deserved better). Other than that, it's magical girl stuff played straight but with its own "twist", since it's the first show mixing it with sentai before people started ripping it off so much to the point of memeing it into classic despite the whole point being doing a twist on the formula.

No one actually watched this, aside from kids and faggots. It was a show made for little girls.
It's bizarre how these creeps come out of the woodwork decades later and try to change the narrative, either because they were faggots or kids at the time, and didn't know what things were actually like.
Granted, that goes for half the shows that people post on 4chan. A lot of them were ridiculed or defacto banned back in the day, with Naruto and DBZ being the most obvious ones.

I liked how they introduced the main girls(aside from Minako, she didn't get much until the later seasons), their dynamics like the Usagi/Rei bantering, how they all had some sort romantic involvement to tie into the show's main themes, and the Nephrite/Naru stuff was cool as fuck.
Other than that, it does have the best ending sequence of the entire series, only Stars came close but didn't feel as impactful.

the fact that it has a good one manages to make it better than .hack//sign
but thats not a lot. the relationship dynamics didn't fucking exist, every character whos not usagi doesnt exist at all. you can really tell takeuchi wanted to kill all of these girls one by one for dramatic effect but was told they weren't going to do that, but then ikuhara didnt seem to know what to do with any of the characters. Almost every fic I have ever read involving SM does SM better than it. its really not that hard to. all of the characters are really simple and it's increadible that they where executed so poorly in s1.

Not true at all. Granted they don't have the same amount of relevancy as Usagi herself and I would say only Rei gets close, but they are there and get some focus.
>you can really tell takeuchi wanted to kill all of these girls one by one for dramatic effect
Which is why this worked even if they are dead for one episode. It also had the balls to do actual death as opposed to what Stars did, close enough but it hits different when Usagi has to literally see their lifeless corpses hanging there.

no, the reason it works is that all 4 of them finally get to fucking do something even if they then immediately die. Mercury is especially egregious because she even openly monologues how little she contributed. as for me caring about the characters, the fans did all the heavy lifting, by the end of that finale I DROPPED IT, do you get that? the ending didnt make me satisfied, I regreted watching it.
>Not a good thing in SM, hence why the anime is way better at most things, though there are exceptions.
It was unquestionably better for the theme of S1, which was fundamentally way higher brow than the author had the moral chomps for admittedly. Basically a romance version of cutting the child in half, Sailor moon sacrifices everything she cares about for her man and world, while beryl attempts to dump eet in order to get her unrequited love. The message to women was utterly lost on even the author judging by the final season.

I think the anime still did a good job at conveying that, since I could get it without being familiar with the manga at all. You still see Usagi pushing forward after the shit she had to witness, without any guarantee that she could fix things.

Time Stop is an actual better move because it means you only need to count the number of turns to completely break the game.
There's no reason to use the SP-based healing moves because the fullheal items are so cheap and easy to get, all you're doing is wasting the SP crystal things that could be better spent on attacking. I only ever needed them for revives, and I only needed revives if I got lazy and stopped paying attention.
even against the final boss Saturn does more damage than anyone else.

I'm almost done with R, and I'm gonna be honest, Ami sucks. I don't know if later seasons allow her to grow as a character, but so far she's been reduced to "the girl who likes to study." Almost every time she opened her mouth in this season, it was to say something related to studying, even if it had nothing to do with the conversation, and the first episode to focus entirely on her revolves around her being blamed for cheating on a test. Come on. She's a nothing character. I don't know why the other girls can have multiple hobbies and different interactions that don't revolve around a single trait, but Ami can't.

I thought she was annoying at first (although I think the way Usagi acted around her was way more exasperating), but after the show started to explore her backstory, and she started to open up to Usagi and the rest, I warmed up to her. She's just a lost kid in need of love and attention.
>How do you feel about the villains?
I liked Eiru and An from the first arc. I'm glad they didn't stretch their story too much, but I also feel the climax was quite abrupt. One episode they were on their usual shenanigans, and the next we were already in the final battle. I liked the Ayakashi Sisters as well, and the way their story was resolved. I was fully expecting them to die, since that's what happened to Jadeite and the rest in season 1, so I was pleasantly surprised the show gave them a nice sendoff. I would watch a spin-off centered around them. That said, I feel the story needed to set up their dislike for each other and Rubeus as this manipulative asshole better, since that only started to come into place right before the story started to play with this element. The final battle with Rubeus was good. I don't have any opinion on Demande, since he just showed up, but Esmeraude is hot and, just like the sisters, has a fun personality.

Enjoy the R villains while you can, nothing is going to top them.
Also eh, when it comes to Chibiusa, I thought R was the one handling her better in spite of having her at the highest level of brattiness. You still aren't ready for S blatantly forcing her in the plot and SuperS making it everything about her at the cost of nearly killing the franchise.

The 90's dub, I think Cloverway? It chopped episodes up, combining the last two or three.

DiC dubbed S1 and โ…” of S2. they cut 4 or 5 episodes, and they tried very hard to turn the show into a Saturday morning cartoon. Cloverway did the final part of S2, then S3 and S4. they didn't cut any episodes but they did trim a few scenes for graphic/sexual content. Regardless, their run was a lot closer to the original script than the DiC run was. The voices were still the silly 'cartoon' voices though, with Amy speaking British and Serena practically singing all of her dialogue.

in the Japanese they're called Sailor Senshi, with Senshi most directly translating to squadron (in the military sense, has the same root as Sentai). in the original dub this was localised as Scouts, probably because they recognised the parallels to the Power Rangers (American version of Super Sentai; see above) the series was going for, but figured 'Rangers' would've opened them up to legal issues so went with the similar 'Scouts'. Since then, the mangaka has specifically requested it be translated as 'Guardian', so all modern English media calls them Sailor Guardians.
during their transformation sequences in the original show, the lyrics for the BGM calls them Sailor Soldiers in engrish, to add another layer of obscurity.

Other than samefagging and spamming like a madman and engaging the worst shitposters and trolls just for having any semblance of "human interaction" and ruining discussion in any possible way plus assaulting people IRL and biting them? Well...

Way to out yourself as a projecting casual. If you were an actual fan who grew up with the series you would have been engaging the international fandom for over two decades and the term used is SENSHI. We had that discussion when you weren't even born. Fuck off.

no "we" didn't. and my point was you getting tilted over it exposes yourself as a casual trying too hard to fit in. I know what they're called in Japanese, I've known and used their Japanese names for 25 years. I use the old dub names specifically to bait autistic retards like you who give way too much of a shit about it.
