She's a graduate student. If she wanted to get piped I imagine she could get it very, very fucking easily, but some women just aren't like that. I'm not even going to say she isn't like that, because--as you said--it's not relevant to the frame of the story, but your argument essentially boils down to just assuming women are whores.
Maybe she is, maybe she isn't, but that's a really faulty assumption to make. It's just as likely that she wants a committed relationship but she's going to wait until her career is established before she enters the dating pool because finding a good man requires a legitimate time investment. That's just as plausible.
