I came up with an idea as a sequel to From Up on Poppy Hill (the only Ghibli movie apart from Whisper of the Heart that isn't fantasy

>Umi and Shun got married two years earlier shortly after high school and are now students
>although they initially wanted to live on their own as a couple, with their first baby on the way, they have to move back in with Umi's mother and grandmother so they can afford to stay in school
>initially depressed at losing her slender figure, Umi is very much pleased that her changing body has had the opposite effect on Shun and their love life is more passionate than ever
>although Umi and Shun are at a high point in their lives, all is not well in the rest of the world
>war in Vietnam (which was already escalating when the original film took place) has turned into an all-out bloodbath, with the fighting dominating the nightly news and ships carrying American war material regularly dock in Yokohama en route to Southeast Asia
>with the student protests of the 1960s in full-swing, riots along the city's waterfront become a regular occurrence, with Umi's own siblings being regular partipants
>being war orphans, the young couple are eventually compelled to start attending protests themselves, to make their voices against what they feel is an unjust war heard
