I know that, but the anime doesn't elaborate because it doesn't show us her family, highly frugal nature, or really even say that she's a gymnast, most likely for pacing.
The real biggest victim of lack of context though is still Aoba. Even in the manga all we ever really get is that her reason for playing has something to do with her sister who we never see.
