I think it might be a matter of exposure, e.g. the "worst gateway" copypasta exists because Naruto is one of the most quintessential starting points for getting into anime, which results in way more people being familiar with it, which results in way more people noticing that the female characters are just eating up screentime doing fuck all when you could've spent that time focusing on characters who are actually relevant

The male cast is also undercooked. Kiba, Shino, Neji, Lee, Choji. All vanish after part 1 just like the girls.

Is there a problem in making all of them relevant? Sure if there isn’t enough room for all of them to get the spotlight. But thay doesn’t matter if they are working as a team. One significant moment for each would be enough.
Ino Shika Cho fight Kakuzu and Hidan, but get then Ino and Choji get shafted to by Naruto.

I have no idea what team Kurenai was doing in Shippuden. Only Hinata got a moment against Pain. And that’s it?

Team Guy just lives in the shadow of, well - Guy himself.

Either shift the power more to them like in Team Guys case. Maybe tone down Guy a bit since he’s clearly like a broken video game character that hasn’t been patched for ages.
Or just kill them if they serve no purpose other than to stand in the background mouth agape looking at Naruto fighting.

Because in part 1 and especially Death Forest a lot of pages upon pages are dedicated to them being cool and important and their character growth both as warriors and as human beings with an agency is very emphasized, then it all goes to shit and they become caricatures of themselves or barely relevant

At least as far as Part 1 is concerned, that fucking Konoha girls joke during the Sasuke Retrieval Arc really sums up the problem the problem with some of the most visible female characters around that time period; as far as the narrative is concerned, the female Genin have literally made zero improvements since they jobbed out of the preliminary tournament of the Chunin Exams. For frame of reference, that's 2 entire arcs and several months of time in-universe where they have remained static entities to the point that they may as well be literally T-posing whenever they're offscreen. Even fatass Choji knows how to utilize new jutsu like the partial expansion tricks after taking his Akimichi-brand super drugs, and lazy bum Shikamaru learned how to do his dad's shadow strangle technique in the meantime as well, let alone Naruto learning Rasengan and Kiba turning into a borderline Cerberus fusion monster. They would definitely get smoked in a 4v1 against the base forms of the Sound Four (5 [actually 6 niggas]), they'd probably even lose a 4v1 against the SRA team themselves.

They're not proactive characters, they're not reactive characters, hell, they're not even good eye candy because Kishimoto's sense of fanservice is complete ass. Also, bonus shoutout to Tsunade's decision-making, all that alcohol must've killed some of her brain cells.

There's genuinely no way for the Konoha girls to make it out of Jirobo's dome. Naruto when push comes to shove could've got the fox if need be, and Kiba/Akamaru dented the fuck out of a Roshomon gate after popping a pill. So they could've also busted through if need be. The only one who could MAYBE do something is Tenten with some sort of weapon scroll, but it's doubtful with how little room there was in the dome.

Both, but there's still more to it, because both of those problems are pretty common in shounen in general. What I think is a big part of the problem with Naruto in particular is that it has a fucking big cast. Everything is spread very thin and I think that greatly magnifies the common shounen problems. One Piece theoretically has the same issue, but I think the way Oda structures the story makes it less of an issue and more of a fact of life that you can go hundreds of chapters between a major character appearing again.

Of all the female characters in Part 1 I think Tsunade has the most interesting personality (Temari is basically #2 by default), the way that she uses alcoholism and gambling as a coping mechanism for all the fucked up shit that happened during wartime (including lingering PTSD and blood phobias) is definitely one of the more unique traits across the whole cast, really, she's just somewhat held back by how bad some of her actions as Hokage makes her look (and for me personally, a bit of narrative potentialwoman where I REALLY want to see more Sannin flashbacks about how they dealt with the war, but Kishi just moved on from that tidbit too quickly)

It's shit because the author hates women, and can't write them to be likeable despite trying occasionally. The women in this series are only useful for half-hearted romance baiting. I guess it's common in shonen, but the shipping in Naruto is particularly atrocious. So that makes the girls extra unlikable.

It's how they are are written in general, I guess. Characters like Sakura are written to be "realistic"/"relatable", so they're more girlfailures than anything. They're physically weak which makes them useless in a battle shounen about ninjas, and they have many realistic toxic traits, like simping for the hottest guy who doesn't want them (rather than the loser protagonist), ruining friendships over it, etc.

All the girls in Naruto are extremely romance-brained, while the manga is extremely not about romance. They're typically simping for a guy with 0 interest and/or libido, in a pathetically obsessive fashion which makes them look foolish. They do a lot of foolish things in general.

The thing is, while the women are "realistically" awful (and sidelined cause it's shounen), a lot of the men are unrealistically amazing, even at feminine niches such as healing. Male characters like Itachi, Haku, Kimimaro have more feminine virtues than any female character in Naruto. Beauty, grace, compassion, devotion to one's man/family, etc. Of course, the men exemplify masculine virtues as well.

So yeah, it's a manga where the men are unilaterally awesome, and the women are the third wheel. Literally, if you look at the composition of the teams. Most of the kunoichi have no reason to exist outside of padding out the cast/fulfilling a quota. Their main function is being the creator's punching bag and cheap drama.

Aside from Tsunade's milkers females in this series don't even get used that much for fanservice. E.g. Hinata has huge ones but we rarely see them, yet there's a ton of fujobait and half-naked pretty boys. Their designs are also not that attractive imo.
