Didn't the American horse win in real life? Which was weird because he had a shit record and had no other feats of note.
Also, why are they still using fake names for gaijin horses who will never be added to the game anyway?
They can legally just use the real thing, right?

So is the Japan cup just basically an exhibition race?
Seems like Japan will actually race their best horses, while other countries basically sends jobbers or old horses.
I mean, it seemed to be legitimate at some point or at least some countries other than Japan used to win it, but now it hasn't happened for 20 years.
Its like some weird squash match in wrestling to make the local hero look good.
We need a rich Arab country to actually put a big money prize so that we have the actual best horses in the world competing in a world cup.

What would Secretariat be as an Uma?
I can see her being like a final boss or late game rival or something of that nature,
Not sure if t would be possible to have her be playable since she would have raced her career in another country.
Anyway, related question.
If she is clearly supposed to be the Gilgamesh of this franchise, who would Symboli Rudolf be? Saber?
What about Deep Impact if he is added, Iskandar?
What would Secretariat be realistically?

Resume of final arc so far (which has been Musaka arc for now)
>Japan Cup gets offscreened, only 1 chapter dedicated to its aftermath
>We learn Musaka trained McQueen in this year, making her win the Kikuka Sho
>Musaka refuses to train McQueen anymore
>McQueen wants to continue training under Musaka, Musaka tells her to not overstimate him
>Bamboo Memory isn't participating in not-mile races anymore because Oguri is now a bad influence
>Nase's father tells Musaka about how Oguri is useless now and she should step out
>Depressed Oguri training alone at rainy night
>Joe and Berno haven't had any actual moments, they are just trying to confort Oguri it's just a bad streak and she will soon race as always
>Musaka enters, Oguri which is feeling better asks him if they are going to Hawaii again because that helped recover with her injuries last time
>Musaka tells her he is going to retire her after Arima Kinen
I want to read next chapter already

I would if only the English translators got off their asses.
I just checked Mangadex, and somehow, a new INDONESIAN translator (that wasn't there last time I checked about a month ago) managed to get to chapter 157, while the English translation is lagging behind at chapter 144.
Meanwhile, the manga itself is at like chapter 195.

It's good to learn a little Japanese. The more I read though the more I realize it's basically like 3 languages between katakana, hiragana and the Chinese characters. So translation can be difficult because of that. Katakana is relatively simple because it's used for foreign words. Most of the names of the horses are in katakana. So that's most of what I focus on learning.

Their dads are background characters. They're basically non-existent. Bocchi the Rock has male characters in the background but that doesn't mean that it's not yuri.
The main /u/mas, including those that aren't selectable by the player, are obviously yuri-coded. The very first trailer for the entire franchise was full of yuri (eg. Symboli Rudolf and Oguri Cap ice skating and about to kiss)

Combination of an obsession with quality and the fact that when they're the only ones translating they get complacent and work on it at their own pace. In the case of TLers that take "donations" for their work, its actually because they want to keep it as another form of profit and the longer a chapter takes, the longer they can farm for money.
That's why they act like faggots when somebody else "snipes their work" and all of a sudden they kick it into high gear as if they have to reclaim something that belonged to them.

I don't think it's about lawsuits since there's already legal precedent in Japan establishing that racehorse names and likenesses actually aren't legally protected. Instead Cygays is strictly committing to only using names+likenesses under voluntary good will with owners for brand/public image reasons, because even if they're legally fine it would still be a big public stink to use a hors whose owners didn't want to be included and would probably just kill the franchise from bad public perception; in nipland losing face from doing something like that doesn't seem recoverable or sustainable

Is it safe to assume Green Chateau, Tamamo's mom had passed away at this point? IRL, she passed away quite early in Tamamo's life isn't it? IIRC it was some time during Tamamo's debut. In a lot of her flashback in the manga, it seems like she's with this old man alot.

There is quite a fair number of Japanese horse racing fans who prefer their horses to never leave their island country in fear of death or injury of their favorite horses. This is because Japanese horse racing fans get really angry and sad over greedy horse owners who demand their championship horses to keep racing until they die instead of retiring them early for breeding.
For example, the top two most tragic female horse deaths in Japanese history are Hokuto Vega and Liberty Island. Both female horses had already won every possible domestic championship race in Japan, yet their selfish horse owners got too greedy for money, and sent the two poor horses off to die in foreign lands, without ever giving them the opportunity to become mother horses and therefore, permanently ending their bloodlines by leaving them as the final branches of their family trees. Due to quarantine reasons, Hokuto Vega and Liberty Island's bodies could not be brought back to Japan for proper burial, so Hokuto Vega is still buried in Dubai and Liberty Island had to be cremated in Hong Kong.
Just search for Hokuto Vega and Liberty Island's name in Japanese on YouTube and X and you will still find many Japanese angry toward Kanamorimori Corporation (Hokuto Vega) and Sunday Racing (Liberty Island). Hokuto Vega = γγ―γγγ¬ ; Liberty Island = γͺγγγ£γ’γ€γ©γ³γ

On April 5, 2025, Liberty Island ran in the Dubai Turf and finished in 8th place. Sunday Racing president Shunsuke Yoshida then accepted an invitation to compete in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong on April 27, 2025 and instead of returning to Japan, Liberty Island traveled from Dubai to Hong Kong to compete in the race, where she was euthanized after sustaining a life-threatening injury. Liberty Island was still only 5 years old when she died.
Liberty Island fans were pissed that Liberty Island only got a 22 day break before running a second major overseas horse race after the Dubai Turf and blame and curse Sunday Racing for being responsible for the early man made death of Liberty Island. The 22 day gap between the Dubai Turf and Queen Elizabeth II Cup in Hong Kong barely counted as a break for Liberty Island as well since she had to finish her quarantine period before entering Hong Kong and I highly doubt she had enough time to get over her jet lag from travelling. And the ultimate tragedy was that Liberty Island was immediately euthanized by Hong Kong staff without waiting for Liberty Island's Japanese staff to be with her in her final moments. This really shocked Japanese horse racing fans and made them think Hong Kong horse racing culture as too cold blooded and damn Sunday Racing for forcing Liberty Island to die in Hong Kong instead of her home country, Japan.

Umas love running first and foremost. It's why gambling is not even highlighted in the series, similar to breeding, even though those 2 are very much core parts of horse racing IRL.
Practically every trainer in the game that has a support card is a woman too and you get the choice to have a male or female trainer which reflects in the dialog, more particularly in Mejiro Dober's story.

>Watching a documentary about racing horses sales at the UK
>Buyers from Dubai, HK, Japan, and now China
>American buyers nowhere to be found

I want Sham, because even though he broke records and was an amazing horse, he was still outclassed by a legend, would make for an Uma with an interesting background and personality

Surprised Mexico is so high, considering they haven't produced any racers, just be a different type of horse.

Basically this. The thoroughbred racehorse originated in England when three stallions of Arabic and Turkish origin were imported and crossed with native English mares. They're bred for speed, power and racing endurance.
By contrast the Spanish colonial horses are smaller and were bred for intelligence, handling and trail endurance. All the traits necessary for the Spanish style of cavalry warfare and raiding during the Reconquista. Strangely enough the wild horses in Nevada are decedents of both because so many California thoroughbreds were released in the 1900s when the state banned sports betting.

I would like more information to confirm this but supposedly they changed the track to give a bigger advantage to japanese horses and the invitations overseas became harsher making the race less profitable for overseas horses and becoming a pure japanese race

Japan Cup in a nutshell
>1981 to 1991 a period of overseas dominatio, mainly from USA and Oceania (except Katsuragi Ace and Symboli Rudolf wins)
>1992 to 1994 had a little winning streak for japanese horses (Tokai Teio was the one who brought back the Japan Cup to Japan in 1992, I am mad about season 2 of anime having skipped that feat)
>1995 to 1997 is a small period of european domination
>Starting 1998, it's the total Japan domination (except an italian horse winning in 2002 and a british horse winning in 2005, which by the way it broke Horlincks and Oguri's record)
>Interest fades away in 2006, with the exception of 2010 (which was a controversial race because Buena Vista won but they gave the win to Rose Kingdom).
Kudos to the 2005 british horse for being the only one managing to do something (with record breaking included) after regulations changed in 2003

Mexico uses horses for work and travel. It seems they also invented their own sport with horses that's mostly a rodeo but with pretty clothes.

Shit feels like what they do with Sumo and to a lesser extend Baseball/soccer, where they will make up bullshit rules to keep it βJapaneseβ, very artificial and sort defeats the point of fair play and true competition of sports
