No, I started watching OP when I was 16, Dressrosa was where it was at. When I caught up, One Piece was still at Dressrosa, specifically caught up at the Gear 4th in the manga, before it was revealed.

I believe personally Gear 5 making Luffy laugh uncontrollably is an important plot point.

Think about the smiles which are artificial devil fruits which cause people to laugh. It was considered cruel that everyone was laughing at Yasui's death. Luffy laughing in Nika form at Vegapunk's death is a direct mirror of this.

Perhaps this is a sign that the devil fruits are derived from the sun god, and the smiles are because some fruits give powers like the sun god while others contain the laughing curse that takes over gear 5. Also proves Luffy doesn't have control yet of the powers since it takes him over, and we know zoans can take over the user.

What if when the Marines brought the treasure of Hachinosu to Marijoise Imu personally bred her? Rayleigh freeing slaves and liking Luffy for punching the celestial and letting himself get enslaved as a hobby would make sense if his waifu was a rape slave and his daughter figure Boa. Also would explain Shakky saying she's a fan of Luffy.

Rayleigh could have raised the baby, hence the baby (Mihawk) choosing to be a great sword user like Rayleigh. And he could have started hunting marines as revenge for them giving his mom to the celestials. I think you're downplaying Augur pretty hard. Nobody in series has shown a greater sniping/vision feat than Augur shooting the seagull from so far away that the SH couldn't even see the island he was on and still being able to tell that it didn't die right away.
