Knowing Kaido's response to the Onigashima raid, he'd certainly bring Wano to ruin just because his puppet was killed. Oden inadvertently chose probably the best fate for Wano in the long run because there's no way he was going to beat Kaido, at least not with hostages on the line. I will agree that from Oden's perspective this was kinda dumb though.

Honestly, after rereading Oden's flashback in the daily threads, he himself is a fine character. I think the issue is the sheer quantity of glazing he gets before he's even shown doing anything.

The naked dance is somewhat silly, but it could've been alleviated easily by some dialogue about Orochi/Kaido reneging on the deal if he told anyone else or left the country to get help, though the latter was almost certainly not an option given he probably did not have a vivre card for Whitebeard. But that's also just an issue with this arc is important stuff just happens off screen with no answer as to why.

Many of the theatric bits work and i can understand the dancing thematically (such as idealism and naivete being two sides of the same coin) if not logically. But the wanking, ESPECIALLY at the start of the flashback sours it in a way i just can't get over. I liked it more then i remember overall and it was extremely funny getting reveals from the latest chapters just as we got to pertinent chapters.
I unironically enjoy Momo as a character far more then Oden because he shows a far greater character arc, with any glazing directed his way countered by acknowledgement of his flaws from other characters and that he does make mistakes which come back to bite him.
I also don't mind Yamato but i suspect the fact i like her design biases me

it would contrast with the constant wanking earlier in the story, making it more justifiable, Also current characters the admire Oden would be much more unique.

Momo and hiyori story would mirror Orochi (both comming from disgraced families, but the kozuki not giving in and fighting for what's right, specially Hiyori)

Would make the scarrabads loyalty much more commendable because they would receive pushback recruiting would be more difficult in theory, but you could handwave that, say it would be more if oden had not a bad name, or the scarrabads cleaned his name a bit in 20 years like toki did in the flashback

The raid would not only be Vengence and free wano, but also for restore the Kozuki name's honor Making momo arc more impactful

On one hand it's all about the giant-ism/dwarf-ism of the overarching plot, but it's also so painful when you read what they 'are' verses the depiction. Yeah it would look weird when Luffy stands next to a guy 30-40m tall and has conversation without screaming at the top of his lungs to be heard, but that's the trade off, make it look cool/reasonable, or stick to 'real'.

It might be more Oda being heavy handed on the idea that giants are genuinely massive and not just Andre tier 'I'm 3 meters, you're 2'. We've seen time and time again, that there's something fucked up with the worlds scale.

Kaido is a really lame villain, the worst in OP so far.
He's been hyped up for so long but he's such a non-character.
He's just there, being a big bad guy with a big club beating up people.
The whole SMILE plotline turned into nothing, Kaido could have formed an army any other conventional way. Contrivance and cheap drama for the sake of it.
In this arc he's just a side character to the real villain Kurozumi.

What exactly are his goals?
What are his motivations?
Why did he settle down in Wano of all places?
Must be hiding from something, what?
He's gathering an army of semi-super soldiers, for what?
Why do his men stick around for 20 years doing fuck all?
Who even is his crew? Other than more non-characters who are just there on the page.

Yeah I'm sure all will be explained in the last chapter before his defeat in a flashback but I'm way past caring about his backstory. And if the story somehow touched on these topics already then it's lost in memory because it was so forgettable.
A victim of the Wano bloat.

Oden got a lot of hate for being a Mary Sue, that everyone was sucking off, but at least he had motivation and a dream.

What's weird is this is foreshadowed and planned from the beginning and it still seems like a bullshit idea, so much that Oda has both Orochi and Kanjuro himself emphasize that he has no desire to live. Probably because Oda always planned him to be the traitor but didn't always plan the exact nature of the boiling Oden death and how the other red scabbards would be involved.
