Yes, him stoically kipping up and walking away after getting multiple full page kicks from a character we're told repeatedly is freakishly strong does kind of imply that. At this point Hanayama's been no-sold more times than he's actually been sold, so he's just as pointless a character.

>I said it after the Pickle fight
You're unfathomable, really? Top 5 fights?
>I've never even said I like Hanayama anywhere
You gave me the impression after trying to say suddenly "loldidn'thurt" was Jack's entire character because he recovered after a nasty beating. Which I find asinine as every single character in the entire series does this. Even Katou was fine after getting a metal wire through this throat which should have decapitated him but it just didn't.

I think Jack is just really resilient rather than he didnβt take damage but at this point in the manga the fights take place in a different timeline and their injuries are forgotten in between these divergent timelines
And at least Musashi explicitly needed to distract Hanayama to give himself a breather and recover. Even then Baki thought another haymaker would have cleaned his clock but damage is clearly arbitrary in Baki
Hanayama won.
Jack broke his own words and only from the mercy he was shown was able to keep going multiple times without being broken into a meat slab.

>300kg
Baki and its relationship with weight classes confuses me. At one point they'll be like
>This guy has 20kg on him, he should have a raw power advantage
Yet the character never lets you believe for even a moment that they're comparable to someone like Hanayama or Pickle who would be dwarved by such stats.
Baki back in the Childhood arc had full on multipliers attached to him like it was Dragon Ball, he got "four times stronger than Hanayama" who was more than twice his size. Baki beat Oliva by bruteforcing it but he's still only 70kg, Pickle isn't even as heavy as Oliva for that matter. Baki (the character) plays the role of the speedster who hits light and also the freight train whenever, how is he able to match the others in strength? What meaning are weight classes really?

>Jack broke his own words
What? Not only did this not happen, but Jack shouldn't give a shit about breaking his word to win a fight anyway.
If you're talking about him saying he could win without biting, then remember that this is not a statement that he WON'T bite, but that he believed he could do so without biting. Out of respect of Hanayama and desire to show off his fighting style, he did bite. There's no moral failing there, and "moral loss" isn't something Jack accepts because his current character arc is about how he believes he'd do anything to win and that you can be the victor even if you're the one on the ground.
Jack accepts his loss when it becomes clear to him. He admitted defeat to Baki back in the MT. He admitted defeat to Pickle after he was informed about the state he was found in. He admitted defeat to Motobe after getting tied up.
An opponent taking mercy on him means little if he himself doesn't think he's defeated yet.
Jack's rude awakening will come when he realizes that he does care about aesthetics and that his whole "losing even while lying down" is a deliberate aesthetic choice.
So who will humble Jack later?

I personally don't think they make him look especially bad. Jack has always been on the more impressive end. It's just that modern "fraud watch" culture is a fucking cancer.
>Pickle
Correct, everyone lost to Pickle in ways thematically appropriate to their characters that displayed different ways in which Pickle was outrageous, but also displayed important aspects of his character even without him being able to speak.
>Baki
This was the single best fight of the MT and Baki and Jack both gave it their all to end that fight in a razor thin margin. You couldn't find a more even fight in this manga.
>Motobe
That win specifically showcases what's special about Motobe and reinforces a glimpse of his character that was shown against Yanagi. It also showed how Jack was taking the situation too lightly.
Not one of these losses make him look bad. They're important to his character.

Exactly. Motobe gave the impression he was fodder in the MT but any time he fights afterward he shows he's immeasurably more powerful when he has weapons on hand. Even Baki could have had his neck sliced open or stabbed if Motobe actually felt like it there in his little demonstration. I don't think he's relied on fighting without a weapon after the MT anyway.

Ya know, it kinda makes sense.
Jack said he would do anything to win.
People were expecting him to do something epic and crazy, some reckless do-or-die technique.
Itagaki went even further, he showed that Jack isn't afraid of disappointing readers with his completely unimpressive performance in a fight without any proper climax at all.
This is a lot worse than showing his asshole would be.
Bravo, Itagaki, truly Jack will do anything to win.

If you pay attention to the ground in that fight, Baki was using his entire body and footwork (ie, stomping against the ground behind him to generate ground reaction force) while Ovila was just mostly using his upper body strength, his legs were just for bracing himself. Not to say Baki didn't need superhuman strength to do the shit he did in that fight, but if it comes to specific feats of strength that restrict which muscle groups you can engage, I don't think he would be able to do what Ovila can. But that is largely meaningless in a fight.

I like Jack's development in this fight. Despite technically winning, he doesn't feel proud or even feel he won at all. This will make him question if his philosophy is even right. If he does finally beat Yujiro using an underhanded method that isn't satisfying, what would be the point?

Hanayama winning would have been have subversion. This is just a continuation of what Jack did against Sukune, but with the difference being he didn't pay enough respect to Hanayama at first because he was not familiar with his game. He chose to trade blows with him and played into Hanayama's rhythm by just running face-first into his fist multiple times, but he got serious in the end and beat him the same way he beat Sukune.

He couldn't even beat Yasha Jr. Granted, he's had some time to improve since then, but if we're talking 13 year-old Baki at the end of the Childhood Saga, then Katou would probably have the floor mopped with him. We're talking about a Baki who got strong enough to trounce Yasha Zaru and went on to be able to fight Hanayama and Yuri AT THE SAME TIME for hours as a warmup. Child Baki was already a fucking freak of nature.

I've said it before and i'll say it again: gou-dou is fucking stupid.
Jack markets it as some sort of equalizer that weaker fighters can use to bridge the gap to stronger fighters, but if you take a look at how jack actually uses gou-dou, he first incapacitates his opponents with his powerful punches and throws and uses the moment of stun to land a bite, but realistically at that point when your opponent is forced to let your mouth be anywhere near them there's a whole number of things you could do to them other than biting. Gou-dou requires you to be in a winning position in the first place to be effective.
Those cute teeth-parries he sometimes uses aren't something you could use without titanium teeth and a neck as thick as a tree trunk. It's not a style for the weak, it's a style for jack and he's strong. In his fights so far he was never the underdog. Itagaki even went out of his way to show how Pickle is small compared to jack. Gou-dou is just a style Jack developed for himself. But he did the "heh i bit your artery now this fight's on a timer and if you don't finish me by then you'll pass out and i'll win hehe" even in the mt so it's not even as if it was new. I never expected Hanayama to win but like against musashi he did way better than I expected.

It's basically the same as the Sukune fight. Yujiro's belief is that 'the one who's head is taller at the end of the fight is a winner'.
Now I doubt if he were watching the fight he'd actually say that Hanayama was the winner, and as Jack said at the end of the Sukune fight, 'sometimes fight just turn out like this'. In other words, as long as he wins, Jack doesn't care if his head is 'below' his opponents.
Or to put it another way, Jack doesn't care about looking cool so long as he wins. Sure he won against Hanayama, but for Baki folk waiting for his opponent to basically bleed out isn't really a cool way to win compared to beating them down.

There's a reason that both of them feel like they lost that fight.
But technically it wasn't specifically flipping an imaginary table that was 'cool', it was the fact that Baki managed to essentially make Yujiro go to the kitchen and cook him a meal, even if it's an imaginary one.
Basically 'you managed to make me, the strongest being on earth, step into the kitchen and cook you a meal like a bitch, and then you even had the courage to tell me to my face that my cooking wasn't good enough for you. That takes some real giant balls.'

I know, Yujiro did it because the fight with Baki started making him feel fatherly and proud of Baki, so he wanted to do something for him iirc. But it does also go back to something he said earlier in the arc when Baki asked him for some coffee, Yujiro said that if Baki wanted Yujiro to make or cook something for him, he has to essentially make him do it like force and beat him into doing it.
Now that's not exactly how it happened, but as Yujiro himself said at the end of the fight, the end result is that Baki was someone who managed to make Yujiro, the strongest being on earth, stand in the kitchen and cook something for someone else.

Pretty much. This is Baki and the moment Hanayama knocked down Jack, it was over.
Same to how Baki defeated Yuujirou, he tricked him and the moment Yuujirou was caught in Baki's illusion, he lost the match.
Most Baki fights follow that logic and nature, both fought and the score ended the moment someone went down, which was Jack.

>their brawl was to see who was stronger
That's an abstraction to begin with. By Jack's current philosophy, he was stronger. The one who wins is the one who is stronger. Jack's logic is that because he was still conscious, even while lying down, and Hanayama was unable to continue, he was the winner.
A lot of it is about self-satisfaction. Most of the cast have a tacit understanding what makes a win a win and whether a fight is over. Hanayama himself would probably also say he lost, or at the very least that he didn't win. Jack doesn't seem especially thrilled about the way he arrived at the outcome, but he seems to accept the result.

What I wonder is what can be considered a victory. If we follow Yuujirou standards Hanayama won by being the one who was still one his feet, but on the other hand Hanayama bleed out, for Motobe, Jack won by being that could decide if he killed or not Hanayama. This is a tough one. Because Memetobe logic is about warriors, but Yuujirou is more about fighters.
I will have to think about this. I still firmly believe this one goes for Hanayama, but it's quite debatable, especially in favor of Jack.

Honestly that's kind of why this is kind of a pointless debate, because it simply comes down to which philosophy you personally subscribe to. And both would be valid, because both have been brought up within the series itself.
The ultimate decider will probably come up in the next few chapters after Hayama wakes up in the hospital and we get his (and probably Jack's) reflection on the fight. Because the other 'defeat' condition is you only lose if you decide you lost, so we'll see if either of them feel like they lost this match.

Jack wasn't knocked out or anything like that, then it could MAYBE be debated about who actually won. Jack was just knocked down and got back up seconds later, he never lost conscience or anything close to that.

I know you are being sarcastic, but what really made me doubt of Hanayama winning, was the commentary of Sonoda, before rereading the chapter I was sure it was a victory for Kaoru, but after Sonoda said he was the victim, not so sure. But like other anon said a couple of posts above, we will have to wait to see if we get a confirmation about won the fight, if not, then Jack can be considered the winner.

If he had won, he would've said so. Even if you twist yourself into a pretzel about it enough to fit some other character's definition of a win, this was at best the equivalent of laming out a draw in a fighting game. I'd like to know Jack & Hanayama's thoughts on the matter, but if the point was to show who was stronger or for Jacko to prove the effectiveness of Goudou as a martial art, then he got completely showed off by a street brawler. If anything, this should be the point where Jack realizes his style is far from completed

>fucking destroyed all of Jack's uppity beliefs
Did we read the same fight?
Maybe he'll feel like shit over it because of how the crowd was pretty heavily in Hanayama's corner and he very much craves attention and admiration right now even if he won't admit it, but screaming and crying in pain doesn't really destroy his beliefs. He had a very similar moment when Shinogi bit his ear after their fight. The realization Jack is coming to is that while you CAN win while crying, pissing, and lying on the floor, he doesn't really WANT to do that.
I don't see how you can say Hanayama destroyed his beliefs. He just did the same thing he did against Sukune for the most part, and he fucking loved winning that fight. The problem here is that he doesn't seem as happy about things this time, and it likely has everything to do with the pomp and circumstance surrounding their fight more so than the outcome itself.
Jack became full of himself, didn't give Hanayama his due, and didn't fight smart like he did against Sukune or Pickle. He just ate Hanayama's blows and grabbed onto him without expecting retaliation. He's gotten increasingly cocksure and showy with each win, but having this much trouble with Hanayama ought to be a wake-up call to him.

No, anon. It's more so the fact that none of his biting worked, none of his striking did either, an in general Hanayama had an answer for everything he had except for the neck bite. You're right in that he doesn't mind getting clowned on as long as he wins, but from a technical standpoint his system was exposed.

Should mention that Hanayama rarely shows big reactions in his fights, Jack could have been doing real damage to him and we wouldn't immediately know because Hanayama has one or two consistent facial expressions and they aren't about being concerned or worried about what's happening in front of him

My FUARKING HERO is yawning midway through a fight???
He truly is....... STRONG...
In all seriousness i think the point of the Hanayama fight is that Hanayama is in it for the fun of it, while Jack hates every single second(also hinted at by the wasp scene earlier.)
That's why it's such a prevalent opinion that it was Hanayama who won. He came out of this scuffle looking far better than Jack, because Jack does not give a fuck. Fighting is just means to an end for him. If millitary strenght got you truly "strong" in the bakiverse he'd pursue that instead. His autism is locked onto goal completion, not the fighting. He'd show his asshole and fling shit around precisely because fighting is just a chore to him. Whatever gets him to victory works.
During the Hanayama fight he "saw" something. It was either the realization that he doesn't care and that'll end the Jack arc, with him just quitting seeing that he has no true passion for it, or, his gaining of passion due to just how spectacular Hanayama was. Wouldn't make sense narratively if he quit so i assume he just got power-up from beginning to "love" fighting.

I think that Jack is saying he has been humbled even though he won. He claimed he wouldn't bite and was being cocky while looking down on Hanayama for not learning techniques, but now knows better.

Baki has the Demon Brain and just doesn't know how to use it yet. Muscle and stature won't make a difference when Baki starts auto dodging and going for criticals on blindspots. Problem is that I think Dragon Ball ruined Itagaki's plans for Demon Brain thanks to Ultra Instinct. Maybe he can save it by making Demon Brain extremely strategic and tactical too.
