The aliens are throwing things off for me. I only think the sudden alien shit worked in Dragonball, which already had a bit of futuristic scifi baked into its setting. Aliens as a premise always brings an extra scifi feel to stories and it muddles things up when you have an establisbed urban fantasy with spirits only to add a layer of scifi and aliens to the sequel. I agree. I get that it's a direct sequel, but everything and everyone feels so disconnected, and the pacing is so weird. The aliens are literally the first thing we have been shown, and the second chapter already implies they will probably be a major problem, so there is not really much build up or hype, at least for me. The two grandkids seem to live in a vacuum, as you said. Gege showed Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara interacting, having fun, exploring Tokyo, even if not as much as it would have been necessary to build the illusion of a solid friendship.
