I hate to sound like a dumb monkeybrained fightfag - I at least want to rationalize this under the idea that we've only barely known Sai, Yamato, and Danzo thus far - but something about Kishi's character drama and intrigue once the action scenes are over really feels like they lose a ton of energy and start trudging really slowly, it feels like Kishi is just riding the momentum/goodwill he had from most of Part 1 (or maybe that's just the nostalgia speaking)

Alright, I wasn't aware he got hit with a long one that needed to be appealed like this. I'll keep posting the chapters until Dailyramen is unbanned. Later, anons.

It feels like we've stagnated, I'd say. Land of Waves and Search for Tsunade gave us some insight as to what's happening in the world outside the ninja villages. The Chunin Exams did the same thing in an inverted way by bringing characters from a lot of villages all into one spot. Even Konoha Crush and Sasuke Retrival gave us some more inner workings regarding Orochimaru and his merry band of thieves and whores that he's been picking up off the streets.
Meanwhile so far, outside of Deidara repping the Stone Village we're kind of just meandering; the characters feel more flanderized, we're back in the Leaf and Sand Villages and a couple random forests that all blend together, nearly all of the cool new techniques we've seen belonged to two puppet masters who are now dead. Really, we've just barely had any actual developments so far despite an arc and a half, when the Akatsuki aren't here doing their things and giving some reminder of all the other places in the setting, Shippuden is feeling really limited.

Anon, if you completely remove him from the final arc literally nothing changes, this is true for every single good character beside Ryuken and any other strong figther, but that's still bad.
I often find Naruto annoying, but I will always take him rather than Ichigo, he's empty as hell and every time the story focuses on him I would prefer having anyone else, probably only the antagonists are worse in Bleach.

Haven't finished Bleach yet, only watched half of it years ago so I can't talk about the final arc but I've finished Naruto and I've been invested in it for years and I can say with confidence that Naruto is a shit MC for many reasons. His dumbassery, his Sasuke glazing, the fact he's literally not even an MC given the whole final arc revolves around him and another guy equally. He didn't even win the final fight. He never invented a new jutsu like his dad, just modified it into something a little stronger that fucks up his arm. For fucks sake he had a guy who breathed fire a shot electricity and he was still didn't know about chakra natures. Naruto had so much potential. Part 1 was almost perfect and he had so much character to grow which was all squandered as soon as part 2 began. It went from a gritty ninja show to a daycare and Naruto was one of the biggest reasons why.

I think around this part might be the actual low-point of Naruto. All the Yamato and Sai stuff is just so clunky and bad. Danzo gets shoehorned in worse than some OC in a fanfiction. The characters are fine, they just aren't utilized well at all.

A lot of people hate on the war arc, but I think these chapters here are worse. Naruto is super lame for having just trained with Jiraiya for almost three years. Sakura is retarded and seems like she hasn't grown at all other than all the superpowers she got from training under Tsunade. None of this works, nor is it that entertaining. Kino moments like meeting Orochimaru and Sasuke again just feel like nothing, other than maybe a bit of humiliation for how the main cast is so behind in progress.

I disagree. Part 1 has tons of issues with the worldbuilding. It's schizophrenic at best, completely insane at worst. There's the rain village/Hanzo stuff and of course the 5KS arc showing the samurais and other lands and landscapes (I can easily picture the Sasuke vs Danzo arena in my head). Kishimoto actually added a lot of one-off characters. In fact I see people complain that there are too many of them and Kishimoto should have reused existing characters, which would go against this idea that part 2 collapses the worldbuilding into a handful of known characters.

At the same time, yes, part 2 deals with a lot of "important" plot lines that have to give hard answers about the world which makes it feel smaller in some ways. But that doesn't negate what I said above I think

It works for this part of the story. It motivates Naruto to develop new techniques, and an alternative fighting style that doesn't rely on rage boosts.

However it's important to point out, Yamato is short sighted. Suppressing the fox just makes him blow up later on, like a bandaid solution. Jiraiya wanted Naruto to tame the fox, and he was ultimately right. It's just that nobody in their village knew how to tard wrangle a Jinchuriki the right way. Good job Hashirama!
